After making noises since 2016, Paddington finally got into development in February 2021. Although Paul King stepped down as the director of the film, he promised to stay in touch with it. While he keeps his promise, a new director is joining the team of Paddington 3 as it receives a new title.
The new title for the third film is Paddington in Peru which clearly states that the bear is returning home. Dougal Wilson will be picking up the directing duties for the film. Paddington 3 will be going into production in 2023, with principal photography beginning in London and Peru.
Paul King talked about Dougal Wilson joining the film as the new director making his theatrical debut. King claims that working for Paddington over the ten years has made him protective of the character and the story. King is happy that Dougal will be grabbing the paw of the lovely bear for the third adventure.
Paul King further admired Wilson’s works and believed he had everything Paddington 3 needed. Referring to the character of Aunt Lucy, King believes Wilson will take good care of Paddington. While Dougal looks over the directing, King continues to be part of the film as an executive producer.
Producer David Heyman sees Dougal Wilson as a legend in the commercial world. Heyman says Wilson is a wonderfully inventive kindred spirit and is delighted to have him on board with the film.
Dougal Wilson himself is a huge fan of the first two films. Wilson believes he has a huge responsibility for his shoulders. He aims to honor the love people all over the world have for the lovely bear from Peru.
At this point, the plot for Paddington 3, now Paddington in Peru, is still under wraps. But the title clearly suggests that the titular character might be heading to his home in Peru. Why and How are the questions we need answers for. The cast for the film is also yet to be announced, but we can expect Ben Whishaw to return and voice the character of Paddington.
