In the Ms. Marvel Episode 1 post-credits scene, an unexpected character from Spider-Man: No Way Home reappears. Kamala Khan debuted in 2013 and quickly established herself as one of the top notable Marvel Comics superheroes of the recent decade. She brought in a wave of new legacy superheroes as Marvel’s first Muslim American character to star in her own title. Ms. Marvel, portrayed by Iman Vellani, has officially joined the MCU.
Ms. Marvel Episode 1 begins Kamala Khan’s MCU origin narrative, which has been considerably modified from the comics. Kamala Khan is a normal teen from Jersey City who has fallen in love with the superheroes that rescued the universe in Avengers: Endgame – and she develops superhuman abilities after wearing a mystery bracelet around her wrist. Unfortunately, Kamala’s initial display of strength backfires disastrously when cosmic energy flares are launched over the AvengerCon stage. The post-credits sequence in Ms. Marvel episode 1 reveals that her deeds have been reported.
Ms. Marvel Episode 1 Post-Credits Scene
Kamala unlocks energy-based superpowers within herself after sneaking out of her house to attend the Comic Con-style AvengerCon, saving her internet-famous friend Zoe Zimmer in the process. However, when her heroic deed is caught on camera, it rapidly becomes viral. And as you know, on the internet, anyone can see anything.
Of course, “anyone” can include officials from shady government institutions. That’s basically what we see in the post-credit scene of Ms. Marvel Episode1. When a man and a woman see a recording of Kamala’s abilities, their immediate reaction is to dismiss it. But that swiftly changes when they realize they’re dealing with abilities they’ve never seen before. They quickly decide to “bring her in,” as the familiar man (more on him later) suggests. We cut to black, and we’ll see you next week.
Ms. Marvel Episode 1 Post-Credits Scene Explained
Arian Moayed was last seen in No Way Home playing Agent Cleary. The guy who shows up in the post-credits sequence is him. He’s the very same officer from the Department of Damage Control (DODC) who watches Ms. Marvel’s footage from AvengersCon. That’s where Kamala Khan discovered her abilities and mistakenly utilized them to cause mayhem before saving someone. Agent Cleary wants his squad to bring her in right away for reasons we don’t understand. Ms. Marvel episode 1 takes place many years after Avengers: Endgame. As a result, the Sokovia Accords may be more flexible now than they were when Thanos attacked Earth in Infinity War.
There may be government agencies that collaborate with superheroes. And the organizations who keep track of them. So what is Agent Cleary looking for in individuals like Ms. Marvel who are demonstrating their abilities for the first time? That information is not provided in the episode 1 post-credits sequence. In No Way Home, we witnessed him go after Spider-Man and others close to Parker. In Far From Home, Cleary appears to believe Mysterio’s huge deception. He also appeared to be fixated on punishing Peter Parker for stuff he didn’t do. However, Cleary’s appearance is extremely troublesome for the entire MCU Phase 4.
Who Is the Department Of Damage Control?
Damage Control is a firm in the comics that cleans up after heroic fights. They even had their own comic, which was designed as a satire set in the Marvel universe, and were written by Dwayne McDuffie, the founder of Milestone Studio and the guy behind Static Shock. Damage Control remained a persistent background presence, even if they occasionally starred in less funny arcs; on numerous occasions, they even organized superhero fights to gain money.
DODC in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is quite different. It was first planned as a joint project between Stark Industries and the national govt, and it was formed after the events of the Battle of New York, as seen in Spider-Man: Homecoming. It had evolved into its own federal agency by 2024, and it appeared to play a vital part in implementing the Sokovia Accords, which control the conduct of superhumans in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Damage Control even initiated an investigation into Stark Industries to track the lost Stark technology in an ironic twist of fate. It’s worth noting that both Peter Parker and this mystery new vigilante in Jersey were assigned to Agent Clearly. This could signify that he’s a specialist in charge of dealing with teenagers. It’s obvious that these men aren’t exactly straight shooters—they’ll try to twist individuals into pretzels in order to acquire the answers they want.
DODC Plot-Hole
The new Marvel Cinematic Universe TV show just revealed how much accurate information ordinary people have about the Avengers. Despite this, the DODC preferred an unregistered superhero-like Mysterio rather than trusting Spider-Man, who was a member of the Avengers team that defeated Thanos. You’d think DODC would be a little more intelligent than that.
With this in mind, Marvel can still resolve its Avengers problems in Phase 4 of the MCU. There’s still time to figure out what Agent Cleary is pursuing. Thankfully, Ms. Marvel will provide some Damage Control answers. That is guaranteed by the episode 1 post-credits sequence.
