Joker was one of the most successful outings of 2019 from Warner Bros., with the studio slowly moving away from its universe-building plan. Despite the huge success, there were not many developments on whether the movie will continue its story with a sequel. Until now as Director Todd Philips confirmed a script for Joker 2 along with a title for the film.
Director Todd Philips took it to Instagram to reveal the finished script of Joker 2 titled “Joker: Folie à Deux”. The script sees Director Todd Philips’s name alongside writer Scott Silver. Todd Philips also added a picture of Joaquin Phoenix reading the script. Thus confirming that the star would return to reprise his role for another run.
At this point, there are not many details on what the plot for the film could be. But the title leaves us a lot to speculate. The term Folie à Deux suggests it will be affecting two or more individuals. So there is a chance that the movie will pick up the traces of the sub-plot where Thomas Wayne was possibly the father of Arthur Fleck.
Since Wayne is still a kid in the movie, there is a chance this term may refer to Arthur Fleck confronting Thomas Wayne for now. There is less chance that this is the same Joker who will face Wayne as Batman in the future. Still, we believe we may see a connection forming between Bruce Wayne and Arthur Fleck. Probably, for now, it will only sow seeds for Wayne to become Caped Crusader in the future.
A title and a ready script confirmed is a huge development for Joker 2. Initially, there were hardly any plans for the film to have a sequel. Even Joaquin Phoenix had confirmed the same. But it seems like the recent Warner Bros. and Discovery Merger gave hopes for the film to return. Therefore DC fans can now embrace that Todd Philips and Scott Silver are returning to bring back the character that gave Joaquin Phoenix his Academy Award.
