Entertainment giant Disney dropped on their social media a big piece of news with great fanfare. With Disney+ Day announced ahead of the D23 2022 Expo, the company plans to advertise and make this second Disney+ a regular event. Can this marketing strategy become the beginning of a tradition where we will see major announcements?
As the streaming wars heat up, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the battle for supremacy is not going to be won or lost on price alone. Instead, it’s going to come down to who can offer the best content. And right now, it looks like Disney+ wants to take the lead. Can they do it with D+ Day and marketing hype? Let’s take a look!
Disney+ Day Announced
The Walt Disney Company announced that this year’s Disney+ day will take place on September 8. Last year, the Disney+ day included a company-wide set of promotions and additional content premiering to kick-start the celebration of all things Disney+. It appears that the corporate branch might take the opportunity this year to make that a yearly tradition to bring important announcements and build up hype for the next year.
As Disney+ embarks on becoming a major player in the contest for streaming wars. And with the Company facing serious problems with the stock price of its corporate decisions. It’s only logical that they are embarking on a major content and marketing strategy to revamp the best that they can offer to boost sales. Furthermore, to do so, Disney will bring back special benefits at their parks, and discounts at their stores. And even some content announcements. In sum, a celebration of all that Disney+ has to offer. So let’s unpack that further.

What To Expect From Disney+ Day?
Last year, Disney+ day gave Disney+ subscribers a valid ticket pass for special benefits when they visit their theme parks and surprise discounts at their stores. If you stayed at a Disney resort, you could enter half an hour earlier to the park before the venue opened its gates. That way, you could enjoy things sooner than everyone else. Additionally, if you bought from the store, you got free shipping.
On the innovation side, Disney paired with VeVe last year to bring an NFT collection from their major franchises like Star Wars, Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and The Simpsons. Also, the marketing hype was pushed to the limit with Funko Pops. And even more discounts in retail stores like Target and Walmart. Moreover, the AMC theater chain featured fan-favorite screening movies. As for the syndicated networks, the company rolled out the big guns with favorite on-air talent from every single major show.
What Can Disney+ Day Bring To Streaming?
The first D+ Day was held in 2021, and it featured footage from a number of highly anticipated productions, including Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and various Pixar and National Geographic productions. Many fans expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of high-profile announcements and the lack of new content shown.
While the official lineup has yet to be announced, many fans are already going to speculate about which shows will be featured on Disney+ Day 2022. In terms of Marvel Studios’ offerings, fans of the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe speculate about the Secret Invasion. I Am Groot, and The Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special may appear.
Star Wars

As announced at Star Wars Celebration 2022, The platform will soon be home to The Mandalorian Season 3. Also, The Bad Batch Season 2, and Tales of the Jedi, all of which are set to premiere either during or after Disney+ Day. Andor, the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story prequel series, will officially launch before the digital display.
Pinocchio Live-Action Movie
In addition to the eagerly anticipated teases for various MCU and Star Wars projects, D+ Day will see the release of the live-action Pinocchio film. The updated version of the classic story. It is directed by Robert Zemeckis and starring Tom Hanks as Geppetto, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Jiminy Crickett.
