Tomorrow K-Drama Plot Summary
The K-Drama Tomorrow is based on a popular webtoon “Tomorrow” by Llama. It is available on the WEBTOON app and website for you to read.
The drama begins with Koo Ryeon, a grim reaper who is trying to save a group of people who are on their way to committing mass suicide. She is successful at doing that, and we get an introduction to the work she does. Koo Ryeon has another member Lim Ryung Gu by her side, who helps her. It is revealed they work for an afterlife firm called Jumadeung. Jumadeung is like any office we have here. They seek to make the transition to the afterlife easier. After all, so many deaths take place every day. Someone has to keep a record of all the souls and their deeds during their lifetime.
Koo Ryeon and Ryung-Gu work in the Risk Management Team, which is a relatively newer team in Jumadeung. While other grim reapers simply collect the souls of the ones who are dying, RM Team seeks to save people who are taking their own lives. Furthermore, they are always having a tussle with the soul escorting team’s leader, Park Joong-Il. He and his team don’t see any point in saving people who have already given up on life.
In real life, we have Choi Jun-Woong, who is desperately looking for a job. No matter what he does, he is unable to get a job for himself. One day while he is out strolling on a bridge, he sees a guy trying to jump off of the bridge. He rushes to save him, therefore, interfering with the work of RM Team. He ends up taking the fall from the bridge too, and ends up comatose. Soon we see an Astral projection phenomenon taking place, where Jun-Woong’s soul is now out of his physical body. Loo-Ryeon explains how he interfered in their work, and now as an act of repenting, he has to work at Jumadeung for three months. After three months, he can return to his body.
Jun-Woong chooses the RM Team and has now joined forces to stop a person from taking their lives. In the midst of it all, he is learning a lot of life lessons and learning to cherish life a little more. Along with him, we viewers are getting a fresh perspective on life and the afterlife and everything in between. Tomorrow K-drama has been an emotional roller coaster ride.
Cast & Characters of Tomorrow
K-Drama Tomorrow has one of the most good-looking teams of the cast. Grim Reapers are usually shown good-looking in K-Dramas, and Tomorrow is no exception. We have veteran actor Kim Hee-Soon playing the leader of the Risk Management Team, Koo Ryeon. Koo Ryeon herself is a mysterious character, and her story is a dark one. She has been brought back from realms of hell to work at Jumadeung. The supremely talented K-Pop idol and actor Ro Woon plays Choi Jun-Woong. He is bumbling but also very sweet. His character truly is a breather in an otherwise dark show. Further, Yun Ji-On as Lim Ryung-Gu. He is also a member of the RM Team. Unlike his tough exterior appearance, he is a softie from the inside. He is a tortured soul himself. In fact, both Koo Ryeon and Ryung-Gu has some sad back story that you will get an insight into when you watch the show.
Moving ahead, we have the very handsome Lee Su Hyeok as Park Joong-Il. He is an unforgiving grim reaper who, because of the nature of his work, has become indifferent. His unknown history with Koo Ryeon increases impatience within us. Further, we have Kim Hae Sook, who is the Emperor of Jumadeung. In short, she is the boss at Jumadeung.
All the actors have fit like a glove in their roles. In fact, along with the main cast, we get many special appearances from various actors in the show. Usually, each new episode deals with a new case, and we have seen some known faces making a cameo. K-Pop idols like Yang Seeing Yoon and Cha Hak Yeon have played leading roles in some episodes.
