Tomohito Oda is the real author and illustrator of the Japanese manga series known as Komi-san wa, Comyushou desu. The manga began serialization in Shogakukan’s shonen manga magazine Weekly Shonen Sunday in May 2016. The manga has been collected into twenty-five tankbon volumes as of now, with more than 350 chapters. The series also has a live-action television drama under the same name. Anime adaptation to the series was announced in May 2021 by OLM studio, and the first cour ran from October 7 to December 23, 2021. Netflix is also streaming the series weekly few episodes behind the original run.
After the end of the first season, the second season of the anime was also announced and started this spring.
Plot
What would happen if you were to sit next to the most beautiful girl in the class? Yes, everyone will stare at you and would seek the first chance to you out of the seat. This is what happens to the main character of the Komi Cant communicate. Hitohito Tadano, who wanted to avoid trouble and blend in with others in his new school, has now made an enemy by sitting next to the most beautiful girl in the class. This beautiful girl with long dark black is Shouko Komi. One would assume that she is popular and would have a lot of friends.
However, nobody knows that Komi struggles with social anxiety. She can’t communicate with anyone due to her anxiety and thus has no friends. Due to projects, Komi has to communicate with Tadano. She does it by writing on the blackboard. After realizing that Komi Can’t communicate, Tadano writes back on board. He eventually discovers that Komi wants to make a hundred friends; Tadano helps her on this quest by becoming her first-ever friend.

In the third episode of Komi Can’t Communicate titled “The feelings,” Tadano is helping Nakanaka and Yamai how to understand what Komi wants to say and what he is thinking. Although no matter how hard they try, it’s hard to understand Komi, and they end up fighting each other. In the classroom, everyone is imagining a romantic tale. But when they think of Komi, only an overprotective Assasin comes their mind. They stop talking once Komi enters the room and are embarrassed due to the fact that Komi might have heard them.
Meanwhile, Katai tries to take Todano for lunch, but due to his intimidating face, Todano and Komi are scared. However, Todano talks with Katai later, and the three go out for lunch later. Komi chases after a yakimo food truck to buy some. Finally, after understanding what Komi wants to communicate with her expressions, she buys some sweet potatoes. Todano reminisces about the time he and Komi during a cultural school festival and cringes. He thinks she is way out of his league. Todano runs into Komi when going outside and invites her on winter break, and she says yes.
