Are you excited for Australian Survivor Season 9 Episode 23? Because God knows how much better modern Australian Survivor would be if it could follow the same approach as it used to in the previous seasons. This Season has had a lot of highlights for us, especially during the pre-merge period. The way Australian Survivor embraced and enabled the Blood vs. Water twist raised the format to new levels of intensity. But, once again, production got in the way. I mean, there are some good episodes, but the problem is, there are only ‘some’ good episodes. The rest episodes feel like the show is just stretching itself for money.
But there’s another area where Australian Survivor has fallen short in recent seasons. They’ve adopted disruptive twists for cheap shock value to keep things intriguing enough to stretch out across so many episodes. The fact that the airtime—the plentiful airtime—is so grossly wasted is the most terrible of all. By appealing to the new wide range streaming audience rather than nurturing a dedicated audience, the last several seasons have become nearly unwatchable due to the absurd repetition of the same formula in each Episode.
Australian Survivor Season 9 Episode 22 Recap
Before diving into Australian Survivor Season 9 Episode 23, let’s quickly do a recap of the previous Episode. In Episode 22, Jordie asks KJ about her Tribal Council to vote for him. Jordie is likewise trying to persuade everyone that Mark has a new idol. Mark is secure in his alliance, but he is wary of Josh since he voted out Sam and believes he is too dangerous to remain in the game. But he intends to cooperate with Josh to prevent Jordie from gaining immunity. Jordie believes he has played his finest game and believes Josh will continue to work with him in secret.
Immunity Challenge
In this Episode’s immunity challenge, players must navigate an obstacle course in order to obtain a chest containing puzzle parts. After that, they must put together a vertical block puzzle. Immunity is awarded to the first person who completes their puzzle. When Josh wins immunity, he considers whether to support Mark or Jordie, knowing that his decision will have an impact on the rest of his game. Mark begs KJ to turn on Jordie, claiming that he is the only remaining threat that isn’t loyal to her. Mark’s plan is supported by Josh and Chrissy. Jordie tries to persuade Josh and Chrissy to cooperate with him tonight by making a final three deal.
Jordie mentions at Tribal how tough it is to get people’s loyalty that too this late in the game. He admits that he approached several people with various schemes today in the hopes that one of them would stick. Jordie emphasizes the value of trust, but Josh points out that Jordie has repeatedly targeted him, whereas Mark and Chrissy have never betrayed his trust. Mark feels that after tonight’s vote, he’ll have a group he can trust, but Jordie points out that Josh was the one who voted out Sam, and his intentions may have been tainted.
Mark chooses to play his idol, called the “Ghost of Jesse,” in order to eliminate Jordie from the game before the voting. Jordie is voted out 5-1, making him the ninth member of the jury. Australian Survivor Season 9 Episode 23 will release on 4 April 2022 on Network Ten. So, Jordie was eliminated, and we watched a lot of Josh and Chrissy debating their alternatives, but it feels like we didn’t see enough of them to get how they came to their admittedly rational decision fully. Were they worried about Jordie’s willingness to continue with them?
Were they afraid of exposing themselves as traitors if Mark did have an Idol, thus destroying the final threads of the bridge with both him and Josh? Or were there other considerations? Did they reach an arrangement with Shay and KJ as well? Maybe we are screaming into the void, yet the players continue to shower us with lightning. We will have to see it for ourselves as to who will use their mind games to the finest in order to get the throne.
