Katy Perry recently opened up about the one-year split she had from her partner Orlando Bloom, providing deep insight into their relationship and the growth both went through during their time apart.
Speaking candidly with Alex Cooper on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Katy reflected on the challenges of their breakup, which occurred in 2017, shortly after Orlando Bloom attended a retreat known as The Hoffman Process.
This retreat had a profound impact on Orlando, leaving him with a clear vision of what he wanted in his life, while Katy was still processing the end of another relationship and felt a need for self-reflection.
Katy admitted that the relationship was difficult at first. She described a “push-pull” dynamic where she struggled with playing games in the relationship, but Orlando was not interested in engaging in this behavior.
“He wasn’t playing that cat-mouse game anymore,” Katy recalled, which ultimately led her to feel bored and move on.
However, after a tough year apart, Katy herself decided to attend The Hoffman Process retreat, a decision that she said had a life-changing effect. Katy credits the retreat with helping her understand herself better, saying it helped her connect her head to her heart and allowed her to work through deep emotional issues.
She reflected on how, during the time of her Witness album release, she had felt she loved herself, but later realized that much of that self-love was rooted in external validation.
The retreat allowed her to rewire her thinking and find a deeper connection to her true self.
Katy explained that when they reunited, she showed Orlando the worst parts of herself, and he didn’t flinch. She said,
“I’m gonna show you the craziest b***h you’ve ever seen,” and Orlando’s unwavering support solidified her belief that he was the right man for her.
Katy expressed that his ability to remain unshaken by her vulnerabilities was a key moment that convinced her they were meant to stay together.
The couple, who share a 4-year-old daughter named Daisy, have been actively working on their relationship to keep it strong.
They’ve been engaging in couple’s therapy and are committed to evolving as individuals and as partners to raise their daughter in a healthy environment.
Katy emphasized that their relationship continues to grow in layers, and while therapy can be difficult, it’s part of their ongoing journey to strengthen their bond.
Katy and Orlando’s journey highlights the importance of self-awareness, vulnerability, and mutual support in maintaining a relationship.
Despite the challenges they faced, they are now working together to build a strong foundation for their future as a family.
