“Outer Range,” which starred Josh Brolin and featured a talented ensemble cast including Imogen Poots and Lili Taylor, has been canceled by Amazon Prime Video after airing for two seasons.
The series debuted its first season in 2022, followed by the second season in May, but will not continue beyond that.
“Outer Range” was overseen by showrunner and executive producer Charles Murray. Josh Brolin, who starred in the series, also served as an executive producer.
The show’s executive producing team included Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner, Jeremy Kleiner, Ernest McNealey, Tony Krantz, Heather Rae, and Jon Paré.
The official description of the series states,
“‘Outer Range’ centers on Royal Abbott (Brolin), a rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable phenomenon at the edge of Wyoming’s wilderness, in the form of a dark void.
The mystery surrounding the enigmatic void on the west pasture of the Abbott family ranch deepens in Season Two, as Royal and his wife Cecelia (Taylor) struggle to keep their family together in the aftermath of their granddaughter’s sudden disappearance. The stakes have never been higher for the Abbotts, who now face threats on multiple fronts.”
Despite Amazon’s policy of not disclosing viewership numbers, “Outer Range” achieved notable success by entering the Nielsen Top 10 original streaming rankings, reaching as high as number three in the week following its premiere.
The series also garnered positive reviews from critics, maintaining an 85% average critical approval rating across its two seasons on Rotten Tomatoes.
