Lara Trump, Donald Trump‘s daughter-in-law and newly elected Republican National Committee co-chair, addressed various issues in a recent interview.
She clarified that the national party wouldn’t cover Trump’s ongoing legal expenses and assured donors could opt out of contributing funds for that purpose.
Lara Trump also discussed differences with her father-in-law regarding early and mail voting, indicating Republicans are moving past the 2020 election while expressing concerns about its integrity without providing evidence of widespread fraud.
Speaking on NBC News, Lara Trump discussed a joint fundraising committee involving the party and the Trump campaign.
While the committee prioritizes channeling funds into the Trump campaign and the political action committee Save America, which covers a portion of Donald Trump’s legal costs, Lara Trump emphasized that donors had the option to contribute differently.
Although Save America’s expenditures primarily cover legal bills, Lara Trump stated it also supports post-presidency activities and other expenses.
She clarified that the RNC does not financially support Trump’s legal fees, despite a failed party resolution to formalize this stance.
While Donald Trump has questioned the legitimacy of mail-in voting, Lara Trump advocated for early voting and trust in mail-in ballots, attributing the shift to election security initiatives led by the RNC.
She highlighted efforts to encourage Republican voters to embrace early voting and mail-in ballots, contrasting this with the party’s past hesitancy.
Regarding the 2020 election, Lara Trump suggested that while lessons were learned, trust in future elections could be bolstered through RNC initiatives. However, her claims about issues in the 2020 election faced scrutiny, with NBC challenging her assertions in light of audits and legal outcomes affirming the election’s legitimacy.
