Recap
“I was on ‘The Voice’ previously!” The blind auditions concluded in episode 6. L. Rodgers was on Team Reba. Val T. Webb joined the team at Team Chance. Kyle Schuesler joined Team Dan + Shay. Olivia Rubini became a member of Team Legend. Now let’s get into combat!
Nathan Chester and Bryan Olesen from Team Legend sang “Rolling in the Deep” during the opening battle of the season. John paired them because of their “classic vibe,” which combines power and soulfulness, and because he enjoys the Adele song’s male vocals.
John led them through a few harmonies during rehearse and assisted in rearranging the song to give it a more rock vibe. Reba described Bryan’s approach as “a little quirky” and their choreography as “flawless” after their performance.
Before Bryan could leave the stage, Reba and Dan + Shay hit their one and only steal buttons. Dan began to explain to John that they couldn’t “let a voice or talent like that leave this show,” but John snapped out of it and pressed the playoff pass button.
By sending himself straight to the playoffs while still a member of Team Legend, John’s decision disqualified both of the other coaches. Because he’s “such a pro” and “such a superstar vocalist,” according to John, he was impossible to let go.
Due to its “perfect blend of rock and country music,” Dan + Shay’s song “Save Me the Trouble” was performed by Ryan Argast and Karen Waldrup, giving them their first taste of the battles. John praised their “energy, the passion, the power” after their fight, but he warned Ryan to strike a balance between “yelling and singing.”
He thought Karen was far better and suggested the boys pick her as the winner. Additionally, Reba praised Ryan’s voice for “the growl” and called Karen “fantastic.” Chance believed that because Ryan was “more passionate,” their energy levels were “mismatched.”
Dan said that Karen “rose to the occasion” to perform a guy’s song, and he informed Ryan that his “presence on stage is incredible.” Karen “really has the stuff to be able to win this show,” they decided in the end, citing her “charisma and stage presence.”
