Archie Renaux from Shadow and Bone reacts to the viral campaigns aimed at bringing the show back. In the fantasy series based on the novels of Leigh Bardugo, Renaux plays Malyen Oretsev. Netflix released sixteen episodes of Shadow and Bone in two seasons between 2021 and 2023.
Amita Suman, Kit Young, Freddy Carter, Jessie Mei Li, Ben Barnes, and Renaux are among the prominent cast members of Shadow and Bone.
Renaux addresses the internet response to the termination of the series in an exclusive interview with the media. The actor says that the response, which includes more than just petitions, has “really kind of blown [his] mind.”
He made a comparison between the fervent affection for the series and the love people typically have for sports since they both foster “this little community.” Read Renaux’s complete quote below.
Star of Shadow and Bone Addresses Fan Pleas to Resurrect Cancelled Netflix Series
Yes, that has been amazing. My head has been completely blown by that. I’ve witnessed the petitions and other things. The level of community within their fan base is astounding. One of them was present. I believe they have also created a poster in Los Angeles and London. In London, for sure.
It was probably close to Baker Street. It’s astounding how devoted and loving people are to it. They have this mutual thing that they love, and I believe that they have each other. I’m over football. I have a group of Chelsea supporters. We have the same issue in a Chelsea chat that I’m in.
We adore Chelsea, and now that we’ve met, we’re in love. We purchase and sell tickets, attend games, and now have this small community.
It’s a good thing that Shadow and Bone have moved on from that. Books were there no matter what. Netflix will probably always have it as well. Unfortunately, we were unable to provide a slight conclusion. Review scores for Shadow and Bone’s first two seasons on Netflix were comparatively high.
Despite this, the streamer ultimately decided to discontinue the show after just two seasons. After the second season of Shadow and Bone premiered on the platform in March 2023, the show was discontinued in November of the same year.
It was hinted in the reports surrounding the cancellation that the low viewership was insufficient to support the enormous production costs associated with such a large-scale fantasy series. Devoted fans of the show swiftly expressed their disapproval of Shadow and Bone’s cancellation online.
In addition to showing support for the Netflix series on Twitter and other social media platforms, fans have also started many online petitions to bring Shadow and Bone back to life. Fans began ingenious campaigns to demand Shadow and Bone season 3 even before the show was originally cancelled.
These strategies included planning rewatches and viewing parties, as well as urging die-hard viewers to ignore the show in the background. Sadly for those devoted viewers, Netflix ultimately decided to terminate the show, thus their attempts to bring Shadow and Bone back to life were unsuccessful.
Renaux nicely notes that since the novels allow readers to continue exploring the show’s fantastical world, the cancellation of the show might not be entirely detrimental.
Even while there was room for more closure in the narrative, at least this adjustment ensures that Shadow and Bone won’t become a watered-down adaptation of the novels. In other words, the two seasons of Shadow and Bone that viewers did see were good ones, at least.
