The live-action adaptation of Peko Watanabe’s 1122: For a Happy Marriage manga unveiled additional cast members and announced its debut on Amazon Prime Video in June. Nanase Nishino portrays Mizuki Kashiwagi, Otoya’s “girlfriend,” while Kengo Kōra takes on the role of Mizuki’s husband, Shirō Kashiwagi.
Sōjirō Chiba portrays Hiro Kashiwagi, the son of Mizuki and Shirō. Additionally, Masaki Okada and Mitsuki Takahata depict the characters Otoya Aihara and Ichiko Aihara, respectively.
The series is helmed by director Rikiya Imaizumi, featuring scripts penned by his wife, Kaori Imaizumi. The project’s planning and production are credited to Junko Satō and the studio murmur, with Lat-Lon handling the production. The manga, available in English through Kodansha USA Publishing, unfolds the narrative:
“Ichiko Aihara. Husband: Otoya Aihara. Married for seven years, they share a harmonious relationship but lack intimacy and children. They mutually agree on the ‘permission of extramarital love (official affair)’ system. Otoya engages in an ‘affair’ with Mitsuki, known to Ichiko.
Observing Otoya’s affectionate connection with Mitsuki, Ichiko undergoes her own transformation… In this latest series, Peko Watanabe, the creator of ‘Nikotama,’ weaves a tale of deception and truth within marriage.
Whether contemplating marriage or not, we hope the authentic experiences of this couple in their 30s resonate with everyone pondering the idea of ‘marriage.'”
Watanabe initiated the manga’s serialization in Kodansha’s Morning two magazine in September 2016, concluding it in April 2020.
The seventh and concluding compiled volume of the manga was published by Kodansha in July 2020. All seven volumes have been made available in English courtesy of Kodansha USA Publishing. The manga secured a nomination in the 12th Manga Taisho Awards in January 2019.
