Deaths are something that we usually see in every anime. However, the death ratio in Shonen anime is something that we see very rarely, and there is no way that someone from the main lead’s team is going to die in the whole series.
In popular shonen animes like One Piece, Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball, etc, we hardly see any character’s death, and if they do show their death, they somehow revive them again in the next few episodes.
However, it is completely opposite in the Jujutsu Kaisen case. Here characters die one after another, and these characters are not some background but proper side characters that we have been seeing from the very start.
And the mangaka/author himself has said that he would do anything to make the story interesting. So, in this article, we will be seeing what Gege Akutami aka Jujutsu Kaisen mangaka said in an interview about killing so many characters.
Jujutsu Kaisen Creator says He will Kill any Character as Long as the Story gets Interesting
So, in 2021, after Jujutsu Kaisen Season 1 came out, its mangaka, Gege Akutami, did an interview with Kobayashi Kendo. Kobayashi-san asked Gege sensei about the majority of deaths that happened in the Shibuya incident (the Shibuya Incident already happened in Manga by the time Jujutsu Kaisen season 1 came out).
So Gege sensei replied that he doesn’t care who dies, as long as it makes the story interesting. To him, it doesn’t matter how dark the story gets if the readers are liking it.

Some other Comments passed by Gege Akutami on Jujutsu Kaisen (Facts)
In the same interview, Gege sensei shared more thoughts about the story and what he thinks about it. He said that there won’t be any “slice of life” chapters after the Shibuya arc. And I think he was serious about it since it was all chaos as soon as the culling game arc started.
The next thing he shared was about his own character, which we see many times when Gege sensei wants to share some thoughts with the reader, “the one-eyed cat.” He said that he only draw one eye because it is a pain in the ass to draw two eyes, so it makes the job easy for him to draw just one.
On the internet, people are quite curious about Gege’s gender, whether he is male or female. Well, this became clear when Gege told the interviewer that he studied in an “All-Boys” middle school & high school. So yeah, Jujutsu Kaisen’s mangaka, Gege Akutami is MAN.
In the same interview, Gege Sensei also said that he was going to make Nanami lose at least one of his arms with his encounter with Mahito, But since Nanami started getting popular among fans, he dropped that idea.
So many of you don’t know, but Jujutsu Kaisen was going to be canceled at the initial phase, and Gege also talked about it in the interview. He said that due to the manga getting low reception from the audience, the manga was in danger of getting canceled.
So, Gege sensei decided to kill Yuji permanently when he died in chapter 9, where Sukuna removed his heart. However, it didn’t happen as the manga got very popular because of the very same sequence, so Gege decided to continue it.
So, when Gojo won the popularity poll in 2019 in Weekly Shonen Jump, Gege shared a comment, especially for all the women. He told them to pick Nanami. Well, Gege sensei has shown many times that he dislikes Gojo.
In some interviews, Gege also shared that he has decided on what the ending is going to be for the major characters like he has decided how he is going to end Mugumi’s story. However, Gege is yet to finalize Yuji’s ending. But it is something he said a year ago, so maybe he decided on Yuji’s ending as well.
For those who don’t know, Gege has already decided on what Jujutsu Kaisen’s ending is going to be, and to be precise, the manga will end before this year ends, meaning it will end before December 2024.
