Lola Tung of The Summer I Turned Pretty has made her way to Hadestown for the role of the newest songbird, as she has joined the Broadway production. Reportedly by Entertainment Weekly on February 9, she had joined in for the role of ‘Eurydice’. She will be performing in the show through March 17 for a limited run.
Rule and the show are well aware of Lola, as she wasted it back in 2020 and was also a fan of it. Working in the show, which one has been a fan of, is definitely something unique and very special, and this has also excited Lola, as she finds the character to be fun and someone she was “immediately drawn to.”
Lola Tung made her way to Broadway.
Lola Tung, who was previously seen in The Summer I turned pretty as a belly, will now be seen as Eurydice in Hadestown as she has made her way to the Broadway production.
As per the exclusive report from Entertainment Weekly, Lola said, “I saw the show with my dad back in February 2020 and immediately became a fan.”
As Tung was sharing her views about her character, she said every character in the show is so special and unique.
According to her character, Eurydice is someone who tends to keep to herself but has so much “love in her heart.” She finds the character to be “incredibly beautiful,” and she’s moving forward to watch her journey. She finds Eurydice such a “fun character” and someone who she was “immediately drawn to.”
Lola had studied at New York City’s famed LaGuardia High School, a.k.a. the school from Frame. Lola, who had gained popularity among her audience as Belly from the series The Summer I Turned Pretty, said that she always had her eyes on Broadway.
When Tung was asked about the reason behind her eyes being laid on Broadway, she said that she doesn’t know whether Broadway became the goal because of the school she went to, but she definitely knows that it made her fall in love with theatre even more, and that is when she was clear about the fact that it was something she wanted to pursue further.
As per the report, Lola is grateful that she had the opportunity to take great classes that made her even more excited about being a part of theatre and helped her attain her goals. She also said, “I feel very lucky that I have to do what I love at school every day.”
Lola will be playing the role of Eurydice by replacing Solea Pfeiffer, and she is going to be starring opposite Jordan Fisher as Orpheus.
There will also be a newcomer other than Lola, Ani DiFranco, who will take over the role of Persephone, which was played by Betty Who earlier. Whereas Phillip Boykin and Lilias White will continue with their roles as Hades and Hermes.
Currently, Lola Tung will have a lot on her plate as The Summer I Turned Pretty, which premiered season 2 last year on Amazon Prime, has already been renewed for season 3, and Tung’s debut on Broadway also brought in a lot of work for her.
While talking about her, both TV and stage characters said, “Eurydice and Belly both have a lot of love in their hearts and are very expressive and loving when they are with people who make them feel comfortable and safe being vulnerable and open.”
While reflecting on the similarities between her characters, she said that both her characters do what they believe is best for themselves and protect themselves because they have both been ‘hurt in the past in different ways.’
Lola believes that even though both her characters have similarities, Hadestown and The Summer I Turned Pretty are very different from each other.
Her journey from being Belly and on TV to being Eurydice and on stage is different. She definitely finds it a great opportunity for her, and she is lucky to do both, but of course, it’s going to bring a lot of changes as well.
As an actor, Lola feels her greatest gift is playing different roles and exploring different mediums, which is an opportunity she’s getting. She also said, “I can’t wait for people to see the show, and I can’t wait to step into this awesome role!
