Our hero, Ken Usato, is an outsider in the busy high school hallways where popular people are the center of attention and gossip rules the day.
The star of the student council, Susan, is always the center of attention, especially when she’s accompanied by her official nerd sidekick, Vice President Kazuki. While some people become the center of attention with ease, Ken sees himself as just another Joe—a forgettable high school kid with a bland life.
In this clichéd high school setting, Ken’s most thrilling project is bringing the baby pigeons back to their nest. He sees himself as an ordinary student going through the same old routine in life, full of self-pitying
Ken, however, finds himself without an umbrella when fate steps in on a rainy day. Ken’s innate decency rescues him from a life of crime as he mulls over the moral dilemma of taking up someone else’s umbrella.
Susan suddenly shows there and gives an explanation of the school’s policy regarding kids leaving during bad weather. In a strange turn of events, Kazuki gives Ken his extra umbrella, removing their invisible wall. When the three decide to walk home together, it makes for an interesting yet awkward interaction.
In light of Kazuki’s image as a ladies’ man, Ken is taken aback by his real friendliness. Ken is amazed by the people he meets, including the seemingly distant Susan, as they walk around the neighborhood.
