A-1 Pictures has decided to turn Chugong’s popular series, Solo Leveling, into a beautifully animated series with Shunsuke Nakashige as the director. The 12-episode anime will be based on the first volume of the action and fantasy-themed novel.
Solo Leveling’s storyline takes place in a world where monsters run freely and are a dangerous threat to mankind. Those who possess the power to hunt these heartless creatures are called “Hunters” and are tasked with killing all monsters that come into the human world.
Sung Jinwoo is an E-rank hunter who isn’t able to fight any powerful monsters and spends most of his time in lowly dungeons, gathering whatever money he can find by killing less powerful monsters. Things take a drastic turn when Jinwoo receives a mysterious power that allows him to level up as a Hunter.
Solo Leveling documents Jinwoo’s journey from an E-rank poor hunter to an S-class hunter who’s respected by everyone around him. With new strange monsters, formidable enemies, and interesting friends, Solo leveling is going to be an exciting anime with much to look forward to.
Sung Jinwoo will be voiced by Taito Ban, Yoo Jin Ho by Genta Nakamura, and Sung Jin Ah by Haruna Mikawa. Taito Ban has previously voiced well-known characters like Nagahiro from Pretty Boy Detective Club and Akira from Yakitori.
About The Anime
Humankind experiences a tragedy after a mysterious gate opens up and lets all kinds of monsters onto Earth. Soon enough, those who are skilled enough to battle these creatures start calling themselves Hunters and are tasked with the responsibility of protecting others.
Their only job is to eradicate the stubborn and dangerous monsters and prevent humans from becoming extinct. Sung Jinwoo calls himself a hunter, but belongs to the E-rank, meaning he has no skill at all to fight these bloodthirsty killers.
He spends his days fighting in low-class dungeons and lives off the little money he finds by working his life away. Jinwoo may be notoriously weak, but after he gets into a double dungeon and almost dies, he is given strange powers by a program called “System”.
The System chooses Sung Jinwoo as the sole player of their program, who will be able to level up much more quickly than others and even turn those he kills into his loyal minions. Jinwoo can see a list of tasks that he will have to do to increase his rank in a short time.
With this new power and friends on his side, Sung Jinwoo sets out to fight interesting new monsters and other evil humans who try to bring his downfall. Jinwoo also tries to figure out who System is and why he is the only person to receive this strange yet very impactful power.
Once Jinwoo is powerful enough to become a great Hunter, he realizes that monsters aren’t the only threat to mankind. Two humanoid groups called Rulers and Monarchs also play a huge role in the chaos that humans have been put through.
A new web novel which is a spin-off called Solo Leveling: Ragnarok, is also in the works, giving the anime much more storyline to work on after the first season.
