The upcoming Rage Against the Machine event has also been canceled. The band’s drummer, Brad Wilk, was the one who announced the news on his Instagram account on Wednesday, addressing those who have been waiting for the new dates.
The nu-metal band that had recently been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame had broken up again for the third time, followed by their split in 2000 after vocalists were left and again in 2012 after 2007. They had once planned a worldwide tour that was about to take place in 2020, but it couldn’t happen due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Has Rage Against the Machine broken up again?
Rage Against the Machine has received high peaks of success from its time of debut. It was formed in Los Angeles in 1991 and consisted of a group of four people: drummer Brad Wilk, rapper Zack de la Rocha, guitarist Tom Morello, and bassist Tim Commerford.
According to the post made by the band’s drummer, Brad Wilk, Rage Against the Machine has broken up for the third time.
Before they had their split in 2000, the band released four albums: Rage Against the Machine in 1992, Evil Empire in 1996, The Battle of Los Angeles in 1999, and Renegades in 2000.
All four albums had made records on the U.S. Billboard, with the album Rage Against the Machine reaching number 45 on the U.S. Billboard 200 and being certified three times platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America for sales in excess of 3 million units.
For the album Renegades, released on December 5, 2000, Zack de la Rocha had already announced his departure from the band in October of the same year, after which the band faced a split until their reunion for a tour between 2007 and 2011. A second reunion did begin in 2019, but it couldn’t happen.
There was about to be a tour of the band, but on Wednesday, January 3rd, Will wrote that shows from their public service announcement Reunion tour that got postponed due to De La Rocha’s ruptured Achilles tendon will now be canceled.
In the post, Wilk wrote, “I know a lot of people are waiting for us to announce new tour days for the canceled RATM shows. I don’t want to string people or myself along any further.”
Then he went on to say that there has been some communication that this can happen in the future, but “I want to let you know that RATM (Zack, Tim, Tom, and I) will not be during or playing live again.”
Wilk ended the post by saying, “I am sorry for those of you who have been waiting for this to happen. I really wish it was.” They couldn’t make up for the planned worldwide tour in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
They again began their tour in 2022, where they performed on just a few tour dates in July and August as they had to stop and cancel the tour days. De La Rocha injured his Achilles after performing four songs on a tour in Chicago.
In October 2022, a message on the band’s website stated that their North American leg of the 2023 tour had been canceled due to De La Rocha’s injuries. De la Rocha, in the same message, wrote, “It’s been almost 3 months in Chicago, and I still look down at my leg in this belief.”
De la Rocha also added that, after waiting for the pandemic to end and hoping that the band would happen again and they could continue the work that they started some odd 30 years ago in addition to all the rehearsals, training, reconciling, and working their way back to form,
They had just one and a half shows, including his tendon tears. It made him feel like a sick joke the universe has played on him, and as he writes this, it reminds him that it’s just a bad circumstance.
Though De La Rocha’s injury has been stated as the primary reason for the cancellation of the future day tour days, it could be something else, as neither Wilk nor any of the former bandmates have elaborated on a reason for it.
