Originally a Japanese light novel series written and drawn by Yki Yaku and Fly, “Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun,” or “Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki,” began. After developing into a manga, it was surprisingly announced to be an anime series on October 11, 2019. March 21, 2020, marked the creation of the TV show.
The anime was created by Project No.9 and coordinated by Shinsuke Yanagi. Fumihiko Shimo handled the writing, while Akane Yano designed the characters. The music of Hiromi Mizutani gives the series a special feel.
After the first season’s popularity, fans were overjoyed when a new anime project was declared for January 14, 2022. After all, this was the second season, “Bottom-tier Character Tomozaki 2nd Stage,” with thirteen episodes.
The opening and closing songs of the second season joined fresh concepts. Easy? Hard? But Let’s Move On!” got to be the opening song, suggesting Tomozaki’s future obstacles. The end song, “Because It’s Not Someone,” brought the reflective aspect and pushed viewers to consider the complex nature of relationships between people.
The Plot
In the second season of Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun, the main character, Tomozaki, faces new problems after winning the summer round of life’s game. Erika Konno, a vicious blonde girl who criticized Tomozaki’s favorite game, TackFam, back in Episode 4, is the opponent put up by his rival, Aoi Hinami.
Erika is upset because the opening ball game of the school semester isn’t cool enough and isn’t boosting school spirit. In this new boss encounter, Tomozaki, who is always up for a challenge, watches his peers to see what “weapon” he may use against Erika. In the meantime, there’s a charming hint of romance as Shuuji Nakamura and Yuzu Izumi start dating.

The next challenge arises when Tomozaki needs to act as a mentor for Tama, who is being harassed. Tomozaki becomes this A-tier character’s mentor after an unexpected incident in the classroom. The issue is that Tomozaki and Tama have different methods for solving issues, and Hinami Tomozaki’s mentor refuses to offer assistance, claiming Tama shouldn’t have to adapt.
With the start of November, things appear to be getting back to normal with the school play and the fall cultural festival. However, things change when Hinami asks Tomozaki sharp research, “Who do you like?”
This makes Tomozaki face his failure to meet his objective of finding a girlfriend by the end of the third year. Selecting a girlfriend is even more unpleasant for Tomozaki since he still feels like a weak character who doesn’t deserve to be selected. The season delves into Tomozaki’s internal conflict and his quest for personal development.
Ending Explained
Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun Season 1 wraps up with Tomozaki, a gamer looking to improve his real-life skills, facing various challenges and learning about relationships.
The story kicks off with Tomozaki assembly Hinami, a seasoned gamer, who criticizes his appearance and sets him up on a practice date with Fūka. Hinami makes a difference in Tomozaki’s improvement of his fashion and guides him through a dress practice date.
As the group plans a trip, Tomozaki begins building associations with his friends, particularly Mizusawa. During the trip, Hinami assigns Tomozaki tasks, pushing him to associate with Nakamura and get to know Mizusawa. Despite some awkward minutes, Tomozaki effectively completed the tasks, and the group enjoyed different activities during the trip.
However, things get complicated when Mizusawa confesses his feelings for Hinami, creating tension inside the bunch. The trip concludes with Tomozaki feeling a mix of feelings. At the summer festival, he goes on an arranged date with Fūka, but he doesn’t follow Hinami’s advice to confess his feelings.
Disheartened, Tomozaki discusses his battles with Hinami, who criticizes him for missing determination. Feeling rejected, Tomozaki returns to his old habits, disappointing those who have seen his advance.
Tomozaki’s sister encourages him to reply to messages, including a date ask from Fūka. On this date, Tomozaki doesn’t confess but opens up about his efforts to move forward himself. He finds comfort in Fūka’s approval, prompting him to stand up to Hinami.
At their meeting spot, he challenges Hinami’s cynical views, expressing his belief that genuine victory comes from finding one’s wants. Interested, Hinami agrees to continue tutoring him.
Tomozaki’s following mission involves getting part-time work at a karaoke parlor where Mizusawa works. Meanwhile, Fūka gets to be concerned when Tomozaki doesn’t react to her messages. She finds her classmates discussing crushes but remains confident. Eventually, Tomozaki texts Fūka, bringing help to her.
The season closes with Hinami, Mimimi, and Tama thinking back around the past year’s fireworks festival. A flashback uncovers Mimimi’s efforts to befriend Tama, taking after Hinami’s advice. At the festival, the girls bond, and Mimimi gives Tama her nickname. Within the show, the trio heads home, marking the conclusion of Tomozaki’s evolving journey and the complexities of relationships inside the group.
