The Spyglass Productions franchise movie “Scream 7” was announced to be directed by Christopher London. Until the director announced that he was stepping away from the directory of the franchise. On Saturday, London made a tweet on X (formality Twitter) mentioning that he will not be a part of the franchise anymore due to the continuous comments that made a dream job turn into a nightmare for him.
According to the tweet, London was clearly very excited about the work as it had been created by Kevin, and it was something very amazing. He was honored to do the job, but due to the unavoidable comments and hatred the director had been facing, he had to make the decision to leave “Scream 7.”
Reasons behind Christopher Landon’s departure from “Scream 7”
The “We Have a Ghost” director said in his tweet, “I guess now is as good a time as any to announce I formally exited ‘Scream 7’ weeks ago.”. Further, he mentioned that “this will disappoint some and delight others. It was a dream job that turned into a nightmare, and my heart did break for everyone involved. Everyone. But it’s time to move on.”
In the same tweet, he continued, “I have nothing more to add to the conversation other than I hope Wes’ legacy thrives and lifts above the din of a divided world. What he and I created was something amazing, and I was honored to have even the briefest moment basking in their low.”
Ever since Melissa Berrera, who starred in the fifth and sixth installments of the franchise SCREAM, got fired from starring in ‘Scream 7’ due to a social media post she made in relation to Israel and Palestine. The actress, amid the Israel-Hamas war, shared a post that seemed like an accusation to Israel of “genocide and ethnic cleansing.” She even added an expert statement from the Jewish Currents Magazine about distorting “The Holocaust to boost the Israeli arms industry.”
The post was not acceptable for Spyglass Productions, and they cut off their ties with Barrera after she made the post. Barrera, who had been a part of the fifth and sixth installments of the franchise, got removed by the production house from being a part of Scream 7.
According to Spyglass, she might have been trying to make a post to serve as a supporter for the Palestinian cause, but for them, it seemed like a message that got interpreted as antisemitic. The moment Barrera was removed by Spyglass, people started reacting, and Spyglass got accused of doing it because of the Israel-Palestine post.
After which Spyglass gave a statement saying that they have zero tolerance for any anti-Semitism or incitement of hate in any form, including any false references to the genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion, or anything that attempts to cross the line into hate speech, will not be televised by the production company.
After the decision of Spyglass, when Barrera exited, the then director Christopher Landon had to face backlash from the public, and it was to such an extent that he made a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) saying, “Everything sucks. Stop yelling. This was not my decision to make.” The post was later deleted. The stress that came along with the opportunity was terrifying for Christopher, and in the end, he had to give up on this opportunity.
Till now, the franchise has been facing criticism for its decisions, which also made its director quit. After Barrera was fired from ‘Scream 7′, it also came out that her co-star from Scream 6, Jenna Ortega, had already exited the franchise, though it was not apparently influenced by Barrera’s firing but was due to her unavoidable shooting schedule on Wednesday in season 2.
