As the story of “Cry, Even Better If You Beg” progresses, the fans witness more of Matthias’ selfish and arrogant behavior while also witnessing more of Leila’s traumas. The last chapter of this series was no different, but this time, Matthias has proven that he doesn’t care even if Leila dies. Will Matthias finally show a change of heart? Or will Leila have to survive on her own once again?
Cry, Even Better If You Beg Chapter 17 opens up with Leila deciding to leave Matthias’ room, but Matthias stops her by asking an interesting question, which leaves Leila thinking hard. Matthias asks Leila if she thinks that he did a favor for her, and Leila stays silent because she knows that her feelings don’t matter anything and that it would be meaningless if her feelings were rejected again.

Leila decides to just sit down and eat quickly so that she can leave. She’s well aware of the fact that refusing Matthias’ offers would put her in a difficult situation, so she is forced to follow his orders. Leila remembers that she already had lunch, and she even ate dessert after it, so it would be difficult for her to swallow the food presented by Matthias.
Leila couldn’t figure out if Matthias was doing all this to reward her for the flowers she brought for him or if he was punishing her for the bad flower arrangements. She continues to eat small bites of the food while Mattias keeps staring at her. Matthias’ gaze starts to make Leila uncomfortable because it reminds her of how he looked down on her when she was younger.
Matthias tells Leila that a lady should not wear a hat indoors, and he then takes away her hat. As Matthias snatches the hat from Leila, she suddenly remembers all the times when Matthias ordered her around and laughed at her. Leila gets filled with anger, and she decides that she won’t let Matthias have his way anymore.
Leila tells Matthias that she is going to leave now, so she would like to have her hat back. Matthias stays silent for a bit, and then he orders her to eat first, and then he will allow her to leave. Leila immediately refuses to eat anything because she simply can’t, but Matthias gets rather hurt by this. He stands up and asks Leila if the food doesn’t taste good.
After saying sorry for her rudeness, Leila decides to get up and leave the place, but Matthias gets rather enraged by this, and so he just throws away Leila’s hat out of the window. The hat floats away and falls into the pool.
Leila realizes that she would have to go inside the pool to get the hat, but this thought makes her remember her childhood traumas. She remembers how she was thrown into the pool when she was a kid just because the other kids considered her dirty. Leila didn’t know how to swim back then, so she almost drowned. This memory still haunts Leila, so she gets a little scared.
Leila decides to let go of her fear as she remembers her uncle’s smiling face from the moment he gifted her the hat. She takes off her glasses, puts down her accessories, and prepares to dive into the pool. This might be a small thing for most people, but for Leila, this is literally a leap of faith.
Matthias watches Leila step into the water from a distance, and he considers her actions rather foolish. Matthias knows that the water ahead of Leila is too shallow for her height, but he still silently watches her approach her hat. Leila eventually gets her hat, but she steps into the shallow area and starts to drown.
Instead of helping Leila, Matthias just watches her from a distance and thinks of how foolish she is. He wonders if she couldn’t understand the simple instructions he gave her as he only asked her to eat first, and then he would’ve handed her the hat. Matthias then turns away from his balcony and goes inside the house. Maybe he decided to save Leila.
