The 83-year-old veteran comedian and entertainer Jimmy Tarbuck, popularly known as “Tarby”, has pleaded guilty to inconsiderate driving along with his discourteous behavior of not stopping his car. He also failed to give his name or address after causing a damaged car accident and to report it further.
According to the court documents, the series of driving crimes committed by the star took place near his Southeast London home. This incident was filmed on a ring doorbell, in which the star was captured driving away his Lexus from a row of damaged cars on May 15.
Prior to the accident, Tarbuck’s sister had passed away, and that phase of his life has been presented as the cause of the irresponsible act by referring to it as his not too good to be in his senses phase.
What has Jimmy Tarbuck been found guilty of?
On May 15, a few days after his sister’s funeral, Tarbuck was filmed on a Ring doorbell damaging a series of vehicles in a row, including a Vauxhall Corsa, while he was driving back home in his Lexus near Coombe Gardens, Kingston Upon Thames.
After causing this damaging accident, Tarbuck just flew away from the situation without stopping, giving his name and address, or reporting it. This act of Tarbuck was seen as an irresponsible civil act, and was pleaded guilty by the court based on witnesses. Other than the vehicles, No living damages were caused due to the accident.
Reportedly, on Tuesday, there was a hearing at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court where the bench chair, Dr. Samantha Cobb, said that the magistrates took it into account that Tarbuck had “recently lost his sister, and it had been her funeral in the preceding days.”
A document was also presented that contains court results that say that Tarbuck was fined a penalty amount of £716, along with his driving being endorsed with five penalty points. Other than that, Tarbuck was ordered to pay £110 in costs of the damage, in addition to £286 as a victim surcharge.
It was surely made clear on Tarbuck’s part that he pleaded guilty to the offenses committed. He did not attend court but instead sent an apologetic letter to the court, taking responsibility for his actions.
It had been told the court by the Prosecutor, Laura-Ann Harding, that the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m., in which “‘The defendant drove a vehicle without due care and attention.” and added, ‘They collided heavily into stationary vehicles, causing severe damage, and at the same time, an accident occurred with another vehicle, a Vauxhall Corsa, and they failed to stop when required and give their name and address.”
Prosecutor Harding also mentioned further details of the accident when she told the court. That “multiple vehicles were hit and one was shunted forward three houses. Nobody was injured, as all the vehicles were parked and empty at the time.”
In response to this bench chair, Dr. Samantha Cobb said, “We have read his mitigation, and the bench fully accepts he is full of remorse and is deeply apologetic,” continuing, “We accept this was utterly out of keeping with his character, and we take into account that he had recently lost his sister, and it had been her funeral in the preceding days.”

Tarbuck rose to fame in the 1960s; he was highly recognized for his hosting on shows like Sunday Night at the London Palladium and Live From Her Majesty’s. He made his recent appearance on the screens in August on Good Morning Britain to pay tribute to his friend Sir Michael Parkinson, the host of the chat show on which he was a guest in 2020.
