Since the release of Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2, fans have been highly anticipating it since months before, when Nicki assured her fans that they would be “going to Gag City,” which her “Barbz” fans have taken seriously. The use of AI creation tools has allowed people to easily create what is on their minds.
Thai is what Minaj’s Barbz have also done; due to their anticipation, her fans have started creating a fictional city with AI creation tools. The fan-created “Gag City” includes all the elements, like pink and dreamy, similar to the cover art of “Pink Friday 2,” which was released on Friday.
The Gag City
Nicki Minaj’s “Pink Friday 2” is the fifth album by the rapper, released by Young Money Entertainment and Republic Records. This album is the sequel to Minaj’s “Pink Friday” after five years.
The album covers a background of aesthetic pink and dreamy looks, and Minaj’s look alongside the cover of the album also looks dreamlike. The look of the cover of the album also signifies its name. While promoting her upcoming album, Minaj kept on posting pictures from Gag City that had a dreamlike pink aesthetic.
The album has a dreamlike aesthetic city, of which “pink” seems to be the focused color in the creation of “Gag City,” which has everything: a car, a cafeteria (Dunkin), a road with pink neon lighting, and pink dolphins. The Barbz has also used artificial intelligence to create similar pictures and has been sharing them.
This high craze of Gag City leads up to the journey of the album, and the Barbz has been referring to “Gag City” as the LGBTQ slang term “gag,” which means getting awestruck by something.
Barbz is using AI to create “Gag City.”
People are well aware of the rise in the use of artificial intelligence to give life to the ideas or thoughts inside their minds by visualizing them through AI.
It all started when, in September, Minaj announced her new release of the album “Pink Friday,” which is the debut of its sequel after five years. In the poster for the album’s announcement, it also unveils the different aesthetic artwork for the album.
In this artwork, Minaj is seen on a surreal sky train that is heading towards Gag City. Minaj and her Barbz (her fans) were hyped up by the outcome of the imagery used in it.
Last month, on November 17, after Minaj’s tweet with the poster of Pink Friday 2 on X (formerly Twitter), a few of the fans started generating their version of Gag City from the visualization through the use of AI. There was just a thin thread difference between Minaj and Barbz Gag City.
Just two days before the release of her album, Minaj tweeted on X (formerly Twitter), “Prepare for landing; please make sure your tray tables are put back up and your seat belts are tightly fastened,” informing her fans that they’ll be landing in her Gag City soon to experience the beauty of it in the teaser of “Pink Friday 2.”
More and more people from social media have become a part of the city like Minaj, and by creating a version of it on their own, they seem to have loved themselves as individuals in the “Gag City,” which now seems like the city of Minaj and her Barbz. Fans are still creating their own versions of Gag City, and she is sharing them.
Barbz and Minaj are into the usage of new online stuff and have connected with their fans through various platforms. Gag City is the first time ever that the artist has formulated a project using generative AI and let the fans be a part of this world.
