Ryan Reynolds and Amy Smart worked together earlier as co-stars in their movie Just Friends, which was released in 2005 as a Christmas movie. Recently, they again reunited for a shoot of an advertisement that had an unexpectedly disappointing ending.
Reynolds American Aviation Gin Company shot an advertisement on Monday for their new holiday launch titled “Just Friendsgiving,” which was scripted on the basis of the 18-year-old relationship between Chris (Ryan Reynolds) and Jamie (Amy Smart) from the rom-com movie Just Friends. It can be said it was like the short-clip debut of the rom-com movie.
A “mini-sequel” of the movie Just Friends after 18 years
The setting of the ad was a green-screen living room, which was decorated with Christmas accessories. Reynolds’ Chris stares at the Christmas tree, and then we see Jamie entering after a long day and being welcomed back home by Chris.
Chris asks Jamie about her day, to which she responds by saying, “I’ve had better days; the bar ran out of Aviation American Gin” (Amy was holding a bottle of Reynolds Company’s Gin). Chris (Reynolds) gives a “damn” disappointed response to this news by saying, “Oh no, that’s so bad. That’s terrible. They ran out of Aviation American Gin.” After this scene, Smart asks for the cut with a confused look on her face.
The actors fell into a weird, inconvenient discussion about how they were not okay with the script. After Smart’s first demanded cut of shot, when they restart the shooting, Reynolds welcomes Smart back home and gives him the news of the bar running out of Aviation American Gin, and Chris (Reynolds) responds by saying, “OHHH! F*CK ”, after which a cut is again demanded by Jamie (Smart), as she says that the reaction given by Reynolds was too much than required.
Reynold says, “Well, it’s been 18 years… the characters have changed a bit,” and heads back to a retake of the scene from where it was cut. Suddenly, on the retake, Amy Smart realizes that how could she be holding an Aviation American Gin if the Gin ran out in the bar? Reynolds tries to overcome this fault in the script by saying that she found it at a respected retail shop on her way home.
How did Smart react to the ad shoot
Smart breaks into frustration as she realizes that the whole shoot was just for an advertisement for Reynolds Aviation American Gin Company and not for any actual sequel of their movie Just Friends but a mini-sequel scripted for the promotion of his gin company. She says, “So this is a stupid ad for your gin company.”
Reynolds sarcastically responds in his defense by saying, “Let’s not rush to judgment before all the facts are in. I mean, this is a self-funded sequel predicated on a loose interpretation of IP laws, so… yes, it is an ad for my Aviation American Gin,” in response to which Smart says, “Dirty.”
Both the co-stars end up having sarcastic humor at the end of the shoot, where Reynolds says, “Never work with your heroes?” to which Smart gives an annoyed response, “You’re not my f*cking hero,” and Reynolds reacts to her words as if they were shot directly at his heart. At the end of the video, both of them wish Happy Just Friendsgiving to everyone and see each other off with flying kisses.
Reunion of Just Friends movie stars Ryan and Amy
Just Friends was a movie directed by Roger Kumble. It was released on November 23, 2005, as a holiday movie. The movie was about an overweight man (Ryan Reynolds) and his best friend, whom he falls in love with (Amy Smart), who rejects him earlier but later falls in love with him when he makes a comeback as a successful man and also transforms from his previous appearance. Both the protagonists end up with each other in the movie.
Last year, when Amy was asked by The List about her interest in having a sequel to the movie, she totally agreed with it. Amy Smart revealed that she’s interested in making a sequel to Just Friends.
Though the fans didn’t receive an actual sequel to the movie, they were able to have a relived moment of their favorite characters, Jamie and Chris, through the mini-sequel of the movie script for the promotion of Reynolds’ Aviation Gin Company’s new launch for the holiday titled Aviation American Gin.
Ryan Reynolds’ Aviation Gin Company has been awarded 97 points by Wine Enthusiast, due to which it has become the highest-awarded gin ever! The liquid of his company was created through a collaboration between craft distiller Portland’s House Spirits and acclaimed bartender Ryan Magarian.
