When it comes to creating spin-offs of its popular shows, TLC is a money-making machine. Consider Season 5 of The Family Chantel, which follows Chantel Everett and Pedro Jimeno, a couple from 90 Day Fiance. The fourth season included a very turbulent run of episodes with a variety of unpleasant things happening, which ended with the couple filing for divorce.
Since their split, the two have spoken out on many platforms, each presenting what they believe to be their side of the narrative. We are somewhat aware of what goes on because a camera crew is always following them.
What happens when the cameras are not rolling is unknown, but it seems to be somewhat comparable to the problematic relationships that are depicted in the show.
Now that season five has begun, we’ve prepared some information for you about the first episode of the season, along with timetables and other helpful details, so you can learn more about how this once-romantic tale that ends in divorce plays out.
Recap
This TLC reality show’s newest season starts by tracking Pedro and Chantel’s divorce proceedings. Observing Pedro’s mother and sister’s mischievous behavior, nasty attitude, and lack of gratitude toward Chantel is quite upsetting. Furthermore, Chantel is not receiving the appropriate level of civility and respect during separations, regardless of the circumstances, which makes these family dynamics unhealthy and a poor example.
Pedro’s sister Nicole is expressing her emotions in a way that makes her feel uneasy. The show then switches to a phone call between Pedro’s mother and sister, during which they body-shame her and disparage the way she looks since the divorce.
Regarding Pedro, Chantel is arranging for him to meet with a divorce mediator to discuss a just distribution of their pre-split assets. Pedro unwillingly sits down to listen, but he can’t help but notice how swayed his family is in giving Pedro a larger portion of the assets than he truly deserves.
We witness a devastated Chantel, who confides in us that she believes Pedro purposefully avoided having children with her during their marriage. It’s somewhat odd that Chantel advises Pedro to return to his native country, given Pedro’s prior admissions that he immigrated to the US for love.
This episode informs us all about Pedro’s emotional problems and the bonds he forms with Americans, as well as how complicated the immigration procedure is. Reeling from her intense encounter with Pedro, Chantel chooses to sell everything he left behind at a yard sale. Pedro discovers upon his arrival in the Dominican Republic that his mother’s romantic life is much more extravagant than his own.
Pedro Jimeno and Chantel Everett are once again in the lead roles. Chantel’s family, including her mother Karen, father Thomas, sister Winter, and brother River, join the soon-to-be ex-partners. The newest season also includes appearances from Pedro’s mother, Lydia, and sister Nicole.
For those of you who saw Lydia in season three of 90 Day Fiancé: Love in Paradise, you should know that she also appeared in the final season of The Family Chantel with her ex-boyfriend Scott.
