The Curse brings a pairing of brilliant actors you didn’t know you needed until…now. Starring Emma Stone and Nathan Fielder in the lead roles, The Curse is a TV Show about home-renovating TV shows that are uncomfortable to watch but hard to press the pause button on. This 2023 comedy show was aired on 12th November 2023. With a 6.9 rating, this show has already garnered a lot of attention.
The Curse is essentially a black comedy drama and satire that was filmed last year from June to October in Espanola. The genius minds behind the show are two men who drew inspiration from their personal experiences they couldn’t forget.
Benny Safdie has reached the point where he has developed a new obsession. His obsession with home renovation shows pushed him to follow this amazing story. Meanwhile, Fielder, who also happens to be the director of the show, revealed that he was inspired by a personal encounter in the past.
Once, he stumbled upon a weird stranger who claimed to have put a curse on him when he said he couldn’t give her any cash. It’s an unforgettable experience that pushed Fielder to choose this story and the characters.
Directed by Nathan Fielder, Nathan Zellner, and David Zellner, the show was originally announced as a half-hour-long comedy, but the run time of each episode ended up being sixty minutes.
What Is This New Show “The Curse” About?
The Curse is an exploration of how an alleged curse can shake the balance of a relationship. Asher and Whitney Siegel are newly married and trying to conceive a child while also co-starring on their new HGTV show, Flipanthropy.
The couple is working on a “passive house revolution,” as they like to call it. It’s a construction method that is part eco-friendly and part magical thinking, at least according to them.
They are looking to launch an HGTV show in order to accomplish this. In this “show,” they plan on showcasing the homes in their adopted home of Espanola, New Mexico, where they reside. But they are a couple trying to turn their real estate business into a reality show, and how successful will they be in their quest?
Can these two possibly pull off selling the working-class community of Espanola and the viewing public on their ultra-modern, eco-friendly homes that might be magical for the buyers? Or will they fail?
In the trailer, it can be seen that Emma Stone, as Whitney Siegel, wife of Asher and co-star of the HGTV show, is a rational person trying hard to focus on her tasks.
While Nathan Fielder as Asher Siegel, husband of Whitney and co-star of the HGTV show, has comedic timing and doesn’t know what he’s doing most of the time. With this duo, there’s also Benny Safdie as Dougie Schecter, the producer of the HGTV show who intends on making this show a huge phenomenon, but will he succeed when he has Asher to look after?
Is The Show The Curse Scripted?
Now, coming to the main question we all have had about the show’s script. And the answer to it is: yes, The Curse is a scripted TV show about home-renovating TV shows. Although it’s a scripted show, one might be deceived into thinking otherwise. One might believe that Nathan has left his reality days behind in order to twist his ideas in a scripted show.
Whitney is the moral one, while her husband is completely opposite in The Curse. If you like shows like Fixer Upper, Tiny House Nation, Flip or Flop, and Income Property, then this show is made just for you. The original network of The Curse is Showtime, and it’s now streaming on Paramount+ as well.
