Arcaea, home to the Arcane Arts. Once, it was a mighty nation of Arcanists whose progenies lived and breathed magic, but when mankind was stripped of this blessing, Arcaea lost its glory and diminished into a weak shadow of its former self.
Left at the mercy of greater powers, the nation pinned its hopes on its only remaining means of survival: a marriage alliance. The first Prince of Arcaea, Dietrich Cataril, would now force his own sister into becoming the wife of Canach Riadon.
The second Prince of Arcaea, Zander Cataril, was against it because he knew what kinds of things are whispered behind their back out there. They say Arcaea has purchased a coward’s peace by whoring out her Princess to the Empire.
Eusebia Cataril, first Princess of Arcaea, tells her brother it is she who wanted this marriage and that she acted out of her own accord and she’d rather they moved on. Eusebia Cataril has always known that a marriage of love is a luxury for any woman born into royalty.
This union is Arcaea’s sole salvation in the face of Riadon’s growing threat. Eusebia Cataril need not mourn her fate, and she should feel honored to give herself to such a cause. And this is how the story begins!
Previously on My Sweet Enemy, Thy Name Is Husband Chapter 35: Recap
We saw in My Sweet Enemy, Thy Name Is Husband Chapter 35, that Symon was really interested in learning more about herbs. He believed that this could advance their medical research to a whole new level, though many physicians here do not give herbology the credit it deserves.
Canach Riadon finds Symon really pleased. Perhaps his hunt for clues has turned up some promising leads. Symon then shows him that they have managed to identify one of the components. It was a medical herb commonly used by dark elves.
Well, that was the new problem now. It is impossible to find elves’ herbs here. Canach Riadon tells the team that there might be a way. His Majesty has implemented various tactics to counter Gillier’s monopoly on trade with nonhuman races.
In fact, they had recently managed to strike a trade deal with the dwarves without the guild’s knowledge. This may come in handy for madam since dwarves and dark elves are long-standing allies. Eusebia Cataril could not believe that they could use the connection to arrange a meeting with the dark elves.
However, Canach Riadon was against it. According to him, it was the silliest thing he had heard from a human about meeting those pointy-eared fellows. The dwarves were also against it, though the deal fattened their purses. There must surely be a reason, right?
Though the dwarves were on good terms with the dark elves, their hatred for dwarves goes much deeper than anyone can think. They would never agree to a meeting with humans, even with the dwarves mediating. Also, there have been attacks on the elves of late.
And most of the elves’ victims were those who had settled near human lands. And now they all hold humans responsible, obviously. The dwarves then hand over some seeds to Canach Riadon and tell him to go back if it is just their herbs that he needs.
