Alpharetta, Georgia
The crew and cast of The Change-Up, Alpharetta, Georgia, went to North Point Mall to film some scenes of the movie. The parking lot of the mall was used to create a thunderstorm, which was needed for the rain scenes in the movie.
The location was also used for the discovery of the magical fountain scene in the film. During the film, actor Ryan Reynolds was spotted having lunch at Dabio’s Northern Italian Steakhouse inside the mall. The mall is situated at 1000 North Point Circle.
Atlanta
Many local and famous locations of Atlanta were seen in the movie. A few bar scenes were shot at Joe’s on Jupiter, and the scene where the lead characters were enjoying a Brave game was also shot at Joe’s, which is located at 1049 Juniper Street.
The main fountain scene where the characters were urinating, which switched their bodies, was filmed in Woodruff Park. The scenes that happened inside Dave’s home were filmed at a local home in the Buckhead area.
The Georgia Aquarium was also shown in the movie when Dave was in Mitch’s body, got high, and then wandered around the aquarium.
On the other hand, Turner Field was also spotted in the movie when Mitch was in Dave’s body, Olivia’s character good to a Brave game. John Smoltz, former Brave pitcher, also had a cameo in the movie.
The ballroom situated in the Georgian Terrace Hotel was seen as the Plantation Oaks club for the movie, where a party scene was shot. Phipps Plaza also made it to the final cut in the movie.
Ecco and Abattoir, two Atlanta restaurants, also had a few scenes. The movie’s final shot of Dave’s anniversary party was filmed at Piedmont Park, situated at 1320 Monroe Dr., which is a historical park.
Ryan Reynolds shares his filming experience
Ryan is a funny man, and he brings that funny and positive vibe to every scene in the movie, but behind the scenes, life is not easy for him.
At least not funny, for some time, he shared his shooting experience on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He said it is a beautiful place with great people, but he was convinced the filming began, that Atlanta was trying to kill him.
Between a fire in the trailer and the incident of flood in his replaced trailer just two days later, he did not have a good start. To make it worse, his problems were just starting.
He said that the next month was a total snowball for him. His hotel room was flooded, his pet dog also got sick, broke his pinki finger, and he was very close to getting out of Atlanta.
He added that no offense to Atlanta, it is a great place, but it is looking for his blood.
