The Challenge, MTV’s famous competition series, is rapidly reaching its 39th season. The second season is currently filming, and some new details have finally come to light. Although The Challenge: Ride or Die received a lot of bad reviews, The Challenge Season 39 presents a novel viewpoint that might be a welcome change.
Both Devin Walker and Tori Deal won their first races on Ride or Die after appearing in multiple seasons of the program. People were uninterested in the season overall, despite its intriguing dynamic. Social media users have frequently voiced their displeasure with the show’s overreliance on the same old veterans and champions.
However, The Challenge’s 39th season may show that MTV listens to what its audience has to say. The Challenge’s 39th season theme is “Redemption.” Despite earlier reports that the new season would feature a “New Blood” theme, the actual concept is a little different.
Recap
The three stages of the Battle for a New Champion format were introduced to the competitors by host TJ Lavin in the first episode. In the first, everyone was collaborating as a team. Jay Starrett, Michele Fitzgerald, Melissa Reeves, and Tula “Big T” Fazerkley, who were all returning cast members, were present to share their experiences with the audience.
Aside from the champions, they were joined by one-and-done Total Madness competitor Asaf Goren, Ride or Dies finalists Horacio Gutierrez and Olivia Kaiser, and their castmates Chauncey Palmer and Nurys Mateo. Additionally, there was a group of relatively new players, which included Kyland Young from Big Brother, James Lock from The Challenge: UK, and Jessica Brody from The Challenge: Australia.
The first daily challenge in the debut episode required everyone to operate as a team; therefore, it was a challenge first. The team had to exert control over a circumstance, or their task, at what was known as the control level. By cooperating to finish the daily goal, they would be able to deposit extra money.
In Hole Control, the group had to race to slide into a sizable hole in the ground from the starting location. They had to scale a steep wall that surrounded the mud pit in order to get out. In less than ten minutes, the objective was to remove every pole from it, free everyone from the hole, and solve a riddle involving the placement of the poles in the right order.
Though nobody succeeded in solving the puzzle, everyone managed to escape the hole. TJ admitted that they missolved the puzzle and couldn’t complete the first objective. This implied that $50,000 that would have increased the reward fund was lost.
TJ instructed the contestants to return to The Challenge House and familiarize themselves with their new residence. He also instructed them to consider carefully who might be eliminated. TJ promised to discover who would fight at The Arena.
Jessica received the unanimous vote at The Arena, where each contender cast a vote. But Horacio cast his ballot for Big T. Jessica was forced to face elimination, and TJ granted her the “ultimate control” to choose any other female to face.
After losing the Battle for a New Champion, Jessica was left feeling let down, but Big T emerged victorious and made his way back into the group. TJ advised everyone to “take control” of their performance. During her post-elimination interview, Big T made a joke about how she would be monitoring Horacio because he had voted for her.
Spoilers
With a house split by nationalities, lines are starting to be drawn, and some candidates are left hanging as they continue to collaborate. One contender believes their allegiances will keep them safe.
