Yuji’s story is one of the grimmest stories among all the Shounen protagonists, and his troubles never seem to end. Jujutsu Kaisen Manga also doesn’t care to kill characters, and the author even enjoys killing his cast of characters and relishing it. But despite all that, this action series has remained one of the best in its generation.
After the big three (One Piece, Naruto, and Bleach) came the second coming of it, or the modern big three. Jujutsu Kaisen is the forerunner in it and stands at the top among its contemporaries, and it has every reason to be. Not only is this manga a subversion of the usual shonen manga, but it is also a story that keeps everyone invested.
The common factor in every series of the big three (modern or old) is the power system with which the character grows. Jujutsu Kaisen, in that direction, is very finessed. Its power system is one of the most fleshed out of all. Sure, Hunter x Hunter is at the top, but to come close to it is a foot in itself.
Now, if it were only about that, this series wouldn’t have made it to the heights it had. In the end, it comes to the characters and their development throughout the story that makes the readers interested in the plot. And then, of course, there is the horror part that keeps this interest going for many, many chapters to come.
One of the Biggest Manga of our Times
Jujutsu Kaisen manga started as a mix of Naruto and Bleach, with a somewhat upbeat cast and interesting lore worth exploring. We start the story with Yuji, who has no family (typical Shueisha route), and his last living relative dies. Before the death of his grandpa, he made a promise to him to have as many as possible during his deathbed.
This vow led Yuji to value life, every life, and save them no matter what the circumstances were. However, it changed the moment he became part of the sorcerer’s world after he became the vessel for Sukuna. Sukuna, the mighty old cursed spirit whose existence couldn’t be removed from the world no matter what method any sorcerer.
When the higher-ups got wind of this and decided that they would eliminate Yuji as quickly as they could, there was one issue. Satoro Gojou had taken a liking to Yuji and wanted to raise him as a sorcerer. However, his intentions are met with resistance as Yuji is sent on a suicide mission.
However, this was when the now popular pact between Yuji and Sukuna was made, with Sukuna getting the sweet end of the deal. For over 200 chapters, Sukuna never made use of that deal until it was the right moment, and that right moment was the worst day for Yuji. But not just Yuji. The one who suffered the most from it was Megumi, as Sukuna had possessed him.
Jujutsu Kaisen Manga: What does the future hold?
At the time of writing this article, the Jujutsu Kaisen Manga has not finished, nor has its end been announced. For all we know, Gegi has many more surprises for us in the upcoming chapters. And as we see in the latest chapters, the author gave us the awaited showdown between Gojou and Sakuna.
The winner was, somewhat surprisingly, Sakuna. However, Gojou wasn’t killed on screen, for that matter, as the sorcerer is too strong to be killed on paper. This made some people a little angry as the breakout character of the series got sidelined like that. However, the series is not dead yet, and there is still a future that lies ahead.
And given how the story has turned into one big showdown between Sukuna and Yuji, the finale should be about them. However, Yuji never had a single power-up in the series other than learning the basic things to survive. And again, the end of the series is far from near, and it certainly won’t end before 2024, for that matter.
