Liam Gallagher has revealed that he is planning to embark on a tour to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Oasis’s debut album, “Definitely Maybe.” He called it the most important record of the 1990s and expressed his eagerness to celebrate it with his followers.
Liam Gallagher will sing well-known songs from the “Definitely Maybe” era of Oasis on the tour, including “Whatever,” “Fade Away,” “Listen Up,” and “Sad Song.”
Beginning in Sheffield on June 2, 2024, the tour is scheduled to end on June 27, one day before the start of the Glastonbury festival. On October 20, at 9 a.m. BST, tickets for the anniversary run of “Definitely Maybe” will go on sale.
What will Oasis’s reunion have?
Paul Arthurs, commonly known as Bonehead, who was a founding member of Oasis, is anticipated to tour with Liam Gallagher again. In September 2022, Bonehead, who had been battling tonsil cancer, was given the all-clear by medical professionals.
Oasis fans have been impatiently awaiting a full reunion for 14 years; nonetheless, this cooperation with Bonehead is a huge step in that direction. The Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, separated the band in 2009 and subsequently remained estranged from one another.
Liam and Noel Gallagher have previously vehemently denied rumors of a reunion and declined large tour offers. But in more recent years, they have jokingly discussed the idea, giving supporters hope for a potential reunion.
Noel Gallagher was questioned about the lineup that Oasis might have if they came back together at a live Q&A in August. He said with a smile, “Well, me and Liam, it’s funny because we’re all getting older now. We’ll have to check out everyone’s hair since that was a thing in Oasis. No matter what, I’m in. There is no progress on this. I’m not sure.’
“Definitely Maybe” the album played a big role in British music development
Creation Records’ album Definitely Maybe, which was released in August 1994, is a pivotal piece in the history of British music. It was crucial in establishing the Britpop subgenre. As soon as it was released, it shot to the top of the charts, breaking the previous record for the fastest-selling debut album in British music history. It also earned a remarkable eight-time platinum certification.
Given the challenging and turbulent path the album underwent during its production, which included arduous recording sessions at many locations, the album’s climb to prominence was somewhat unexpected.
In a review of its 2014 re-release, Rolling Stone music reviewer Rob Sheffield praised it highly, saying it is “still one of the most beautifully raw homages to cigarettes, alcohol, and straightforward guitar solos to ever come from the British Isles” even 20 years after it was initially released.
Songs from the Oasis and “Definitely Maybe” albums are frequently included in Liam Gallagher’s solo setlists. “C’mon You Know,” his most recent album, was released in 2022. This year, Noel Gallagher and the High Flying Birds published “Council Skies.”
More about the Oasis
Manchester was the birthplace of the British rock group Oasis in 1991. Originally known as the Rain, the group had Tony McCarroll on drums, Paul Arthurs on guitar, Paul McGuigan on bass guitar, and Liam Gallagher on tambourine. Noel, Liam’s older brother, joined the group as the fifth member later on, solidifying its core makeup.
Oasis’ line-up changed frequently over the years, with the Gallagher brothers serving as the band’s lone constant.
In 1993, Oasis signed a contract with the independent record company Creation Records, and in 1994, they dropped their ground-breaking debut album, “Definitely Maybe.” Not only did this album top the UK Albums Chart, but it also quickly overtook all previous debut albums in British history in terms of sales.
The next year, in the middle of a highly publicized chart competition with their contemporaries Blur, they released “(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?” with their new drummer Alan White. This second album became one of the best-selling albums of all time and lasted ten weeks at the top of the British charts.
It also enjoyed tremendous success abroad. It also has the distinction of being the highest-selling album in the UK throughout the 1990s and the fifth-best-selling album overall in the country.
