Hans Rosenfeldt and Camilla Ahlgren will be directing the upcoming British television series The Burning Girls, based on C.J. Tudor’s novel of the same name. Samantha Morton and Ruby Stokes star in the Buccaneer Media production for Paramount+.
Following a devastating loss, a Reverend and her daughter travel to Chapel Croft in search of a fresh start. The peaceful community, meanwhile, might perhaps be hiding something.
Chapel Croft is a little town with a troubled and turbulent past. Two young girls were among the Protestant martyrs who were betrayed and executed at the stake five hundred years ago. Two adolescent females vanished 30 years ago without a trace. Additionally, the local parish’s vicar hanged himself a few weeks ago in the church’s nave.
More About The Show
As the sole caregiver for her teenage daughter Flo, Reverend Jack Brooks (Samantha Norton) bears the weight of her husband’s passing. She relocates to Chapel Croft to start over because a tragedy from her previous church plagues her.
However, the community has a bloody history that dates back 500 years to the betrayal and stake burning of two young Protestant martyrs. A few weeks before Jack arrived, the village’s vicar hanged himself in the church’s nave after two adolescent girls went missing from the community thirty years before.
The neighborhood is full of hidden agendas, and Jack quickly discovers that learning about them is a risky endeavor. She and Flo become more and more entangled in Chapel Croft’s terrible secrets, ancient rifts, and riddles as they learn more about the town’s tragic past.
Jack Brooks, portrayed by Samantha Morton, is a single mother and vicar who hopes to find serenity in her new house. Samantha tells us a lot more about this here. Jack is a contemporary vicar, similar to Kate Bottley or The Vicar of Dibley.
Jack’s teenage daughter Flo, who dances to her beat, is portrayed by Ruby Stokes. Ruby describes Flo as an introvert who is also incredibly creative. She cherishes the time and effort of others and loves her mother and friends.
She uses a vintage film camera that was formerly her father’s. Since she was only a year old when he passed away, she never really got to know him, so the only memory she has of him is this camera. Throughout the series, the relationship between Jack and Flo deteriorates, but this is true of all parent-child relationships.
They communicate openly, but as the plot deepens, Jack is less able to support Flo emotionally than she was before they moved to the hamlet, which causes their relationship to deteriorate. Conrad Khan plays Lucas Wrigley, a shadowy teen whom Flo befriends in The Burning Girls. Aaron Marsh, the churchwarden, is portrayed by David Dawson, while Simon Harper, the village super-snob, is portrayed by Rupert Graves.
Paul Bradley, a star of Holby City and EastEnders, Janie Dee, Jane Lapotaire, John Macmillan, Elodie Grace Orkin, Safia Oakley-Green, Beth Cordingly, Jack Roth, and Mollie Holder are among the other cast members.
