Love At First Sight – Premise
The film focuses on a budding romance between Oliver and Hadley, who met on a flight and fell head over heels for each only to lose each other at customs with no way to contact each other. This is where destiny knocked on their doors in an attempt to reunite the two love birds.
The film starts with Hadley rushing through the airport to catch her flight to London but ultimately missing it within a few minutes. Hadley had to reach London on time as she had to attend her dad’s wedding, so she rescheduled her flight to the one leaving in a few hours and waited at the airport.
While Hadley waits at the gate, she encounters Oliver Jones, a young British mathematician from Yale who offers to lend her his charger to Hayley after noticing her phone is dead. Oliver and Hadley get along amazingly, and they start to eat together. Hadley assumes that Oliver is also going to a wedding after she sees him carrying a garment bag.
Hadley and Oliver spend the entire flight talking with each other after Oliver is seated next to Hadley due to his seat belt breaking. Hadley shares about the closeness she shared with her dad before he moved to London to follow his passion for teaching poetry. This led to Hadley’s father divorcing her mother, and she felt hesitant to attend his wedding after years.
Oliver encourages Hadley to forgive her dad for her peace of mind, and the two nearly kiss each other before falling asleep for the rest of the flight. After the flight lands, Hadley and Oliver separate from each other at the customs line, but Oliver types his number on Hadley’s phone, asking her to text him sometime. Unfortunately, Hadley drops her phone, which dies, and she loses Oliver’s number.
Once Hayley arrives at her father’s wedding, she is conflicted between her feelings about not forgiving her father and realizing that her father’s would-be wife is amazing.
After the ceremony ends, Hayley overhears her guests, informing Charlotte that they will leave early to visit Peckham House for a memorial, and Hadley realizes this is where Oliver is going to be due to the conversation the two shared.
Hadley decides to visit the Peckham house after realizing that Oliver has gone there to attend his mother’s funeral. Hadley meets Oliver’s younger brother and parents at his mother’s Shakespearean-themed memorial.
Once there, Hayley also learns that Oliver’s mother isn’t dead but is dying after refusing to undergo her cancer treatment after it returns following a remission period of 12 years. Even though Oliver is heartbroken by his mother’s decision not to continue with the treatment, he becomes overjoyed after meeting Hadley.
Hadley and Oliver talk at his mother’s memorial, and she tells him that he rationalizes everything in his life instead of showing his emotions. Oliver takes Hadley’s back with himself after realizing that she left it behind. Meanwhile, Hadley gets lost while trying to return to her father’s wedding reception and calls her father to pick her up.
Once together, on the way to the reception, Hadley questions her father about his reason for not fighting for her mother. The father-daughter duo reunite and happily go to their reception. After the memorial ends, Oliver’s family teases him by Hadley’s name. Oliver’s parents encourage him to go after Hadley regardless of the odds.
Oliver takes the risk of going after Hayley after his father encourages him. Oliver arrives at the reception venue of Hadley’s parents and admits to her about his love for Hadley. Hadley kisses Oliver in response to his proposal, and the narrator relays that Oliver and Hadley will be married for 58 years and have their fair share of love and arguments before Hadley passes away.
The film ends with the pair deciding to stay together forever and the narrator relaying the ending of their love story.
