More importantly, why wasn’t destroying the plant an option? Because it’s not going to give an answer that kills itself! Rather, it will give you some knowledge about how you got to be its host.
Instead of having it prey on him and taking the risk of an apocalyptic event at all, he would soon just kill the thing, so he doesn’t have to worry about any of that!
