What if the fame you worked hard to achieve vanishes within moments, and you have to resort to making a living by working in a mart or grocery store? Following the story of rags to riches or riches to rag, if you get my drift, is a new drama series titled Boss-dol Mart available for viewers to watch.
Directed by Lee Yoo-Yeon, the comedy-drama series follows the lives of a five-member boy band with K-pop idols whose talent agency has left them in hot waters after facing financial troubles and not being able to pay the people working for them.
Released on September 15, 2023, the series stars Lee Shin Young playing Choi Ho Rang’s role, Xiumin playing Shin Tae-Ho’s role, Hyung Won playing Jo Yi-joon, Choi Jung-woon playing Oh Ye-rim’s role, Choi Won-myung playing Eun Young-min’s role, and Lee Sae-on playing Yoo Sang-woo’s role.
The series recurring cast stars Kim Sha-na playing Gina’s role, Lee Sang-jin playing Lee Ji-wook’s role, and Jung Woo-hyuk playing the character of the Mart’s owner. Produced by Oh Hwan-min, the series has managed to create buzz as it stars idols from known K-pop groups, including Xiumin from Exo and Hyungwon from Monsta X.
The series has Choi Ho-rang in the group leader’s role, who has to disband the Thuder Boys group after their agency left them high and dry. The group of idols meet again under different circumstances and become in charge of turning fate around for the Boram Mart.
The group leader starts to work as the boss of the Boram Mart, and Shin Tae-Ho, the band’s lead dancer now works as a cashier at the store. The comedy series provides viewers with a glimpse into the life of an idol and how much it takes to continue with the same lifestyle. Viewers have loved the series from the moment TVING dropped the series teaser.

Boss-dol Mart – Recap
The comedy series takes the viewers on an idol’s journey of working at a mart after their talent agency abandons them due to financial troubles. The Thunder Group, a boy band formed with five heartthrob K-pop idols disbands after their talent agency leaves them in the middle after facing financial issues and they take over Boram Mart in place of payment for a promotional shoot they did for the mart a while ago.
The previous mart owner transferred the mart’s title to the five band members after failing to make a payment for a promotional shoot the members did. The members take over different roles at the mart and try to turn their way around and earn money from it.
The CEO of the talent agency the Thunder Boys worked for turned out to be a con that led to the group separating and going their separate ways. The series moves five years forward, and we see Choi Ho-rang and Shin Tae Ho have an encounter with each other at a police station.
Even though the pair pretended not to miss each other, on the inside, they were ecstatic to encounter each other. In a turn of events, they learn that a mart they used to visit frequently, as trainees has them named, as the new owners. The pair contacts the remaining members, and together, they decide to run the mart to earn a good livelihood.
During their journey, the band encounters Oh Ye-rim, a sweet lady who saves the group from debt collectors. Oh, Ye-rim dreamt of becoming an idol but failed to make it a reality for herself. The reunion between the idols was heartfelt and left the fans sobbing and feeling all kinds of things.
Meanwhile, at the time the group is making the decision related to the mart, a power outage occurs in the mart, and a mysterious figure appears. The series starts with a mysterious figure entering the mart and destroying the CCTV footage and cameras of the mart before the scene shifts to a police station where Shin Tae-ho is questioned about the reason behind his breaking into the Boram Mart.
Shin denies the accusation and continues to claim that he wasn’t the one behind breaking the glass door of Boram Mart, but he did steal five of the orange candies kept in the detective’s basket. The Mart’s owner arrives at the station and offers a settlement worth 10 million won to drop the charges against Shin for causing mental distress.
Meanwhile, Oh Ye-rim makes a run for a song recording but loses her phone near a plantation site. Ho-rang recovers her phone after it gets buried under the soil meant for the plantation and charges her for it. Ho-rang works as a delivery man, along with working as a construction worker.
The series flashes back to the days the five used to train to become an idol, and Shin identifies Ho-rang on screen in the news breaking the Boram mart’s glass door to prevent a fire. Meanwhile, Oh Ye-rim is also searching for a job, and the group reunites to run the Borum Mart.
The first episode ends with Oh Ye-rim saving the boys from debt collectors, and the collectors leave after Ho-rang assures them that they will pay the due. The second episode ends with Ho-rang deciding to stay back and continue to work at the mart.

Boss-Dol Mart Episode 3 will air on TVING on September 22, 2023, at 12:00 AM [K.S.T.] and will focus on the Thunder Boys trying to run the Borum Mart while fighting against people hell-bent on getting it closed.
