Fans watching Doctor Who, which made its way to our screens in 2005, are always curious about where this show was filmed. So, this post is specifically for those fans! But before that, to those who need a recap of the plot, here is:
Doctor Who is said to be a classic TV show that is aimed at focusing on an alien called the Doctor. So, via this post, we aim to show you all the places we’ve looked at as they have appeared in the show several times.
What is the premise of Doctor Who?
So, our main character has traveled through time and space in a spaceship throughout the show. He used a spaceship that looked like a blue police box. The fans know how this Doctor was called a Time Lord who was said to be able to regenerate.
So what this means is they do have the ability to change every bit of their appearance while they know when they are about to die. This Doctor is often seen with his companions who are traveling with them.
So together, this Doctor, as well as their companions, are seen going on multiple adventures after fighting monsters, multiple aliens, and several other threats to the universe. Every one of them tries to save planets and people. You need to know that sometimes they are seen trying to prevent even historical events from danger.
This Doctor is shown to be a kind and clever hero. And this very show is full of exciting and scary stories. How, you might ask? Well, they are shown to be exploring the universe and making new friends along the way.
Doctor Who Filming Locations
In 2005, we met Doctor Who (who is played by Christopher Eccleston). It started with Rose, who was shown to be working in a store in London. This store was shown to get caught in the fire.
They have said to film this scene on Mary Street, which is in Cardiff. They did it by using an empty House of Fraser store. Then, in the show’s later episodes, they also used shops located on St. Mary Street and Queens Arcade.
Then, in late December 2005, we saw how David Tennant debuted as the Doctor in ‘The Christmas Invasion’ on St. Mary Street. So Roald Dahl of Cardiff is said to have first appeared in ‘Boom Town.’
This was used to show the rift in time and space. The Tenth Doctor (a.k.a David Tennant) used this rift to power the Tardis. Then, the Roald Dahl Plass is said to have featured multiple times in this series. It is also shown to be the location of Torchwood Three’s headquarters in the spin-off show named ‘Torchwood.’ Today, it’s used for concerts and events, like the Cardiff Food Festival.
The Hensol Castle of Glamorgan is said to have appeared in ‘The Unicorn and the Wasp.’ We all know how this happens! It transpired when our Doctor (David Tennant) tried to take Agatha Christie to the famous Harrogate Hotel.
So, as per the sources, this castle and every bit of its interiors were used as 10 Downing Street in various episodes. In real life, we have learned that Hensol Castle is a historic wedding venue.
It has beautiful architecture that makes it a popular filming location. Then we have Llansannor Court, which is also known as Eddison Manor. This was used to film the scene where this Doctor and Donna meet Agatha Christie from ‘The Unicorn and the Wasp.’
Next was the National Museum of Wales. It has been used in several Doctor Who episodes. This museum is said to have been founded in late 1905. It is a cultural hub in the very heart of Cardiff’s city center.
Cardiff Castle is said to have been located in the city center and featured in Doctor Who episodes. Cathedral Green of Llandaf is said to have been used as the fictional town of Leadworth in the 11th Doctor’s Adventures.
Another location was Caerphilly Castle. This is located outside Cardiff and has been used in multiple Doctor Who episodes, including ‘Robot of Sherwood’ and ‘The Magician’s Apprentice.’ This is said to be a favorite location for this show’s filing as it has a castle-like appearance.
