Usually, those characters don’t have anything interesting to add or have anything interesting about themselves, and they are exposition mouthpieces. These characters were no different either in that ground and were there just to run mouth and give the status of how things were at school. However, their zealous nature was unsettling, given that MC is physically older than them.
Isekai, or reincarnation, at least has the benefit of the doubt when it comes to physical age but not this series. And there will be a lot of those moments in this as we go further and further, but it’s not like the series isn’t self-aware. It tries to keep that within a minimum to not raise eyebrows, or the series might get popular for different reasons.

Yes, it is Chunibyou as heck, but these guys are high schoolers, so this is not out of line for them. But this is a series that was supposed to be serious when it started but has receded in time.
