Their mother says that even if he offered, he would turn him down because she is afraid when he asks her what she would do without him. This is when she says that that is true; having him around does help.
After that, while mentioning that these days, they say the youngest is the filial one and ask her for money. This makes her mother even angrier, who says that she knew and that is why he should forget about having the money and go to school, and also advises him to adjust his uniform.
