This playtest introduces fresh elements for martial classes and incorporates revisions for spellcasters.
Since the launch of One D&D, there have been several notable alterations to the rules, receiving mixed reactions from the community. Barbarians, fighters, sorcerers, wizards, and warlocks – all of these classes have now changed the mechanics of their respective classes, although the extent of modifications varies among them. Unleashing the Sorcerer’s Subclass Potential at Level Three in D&D
In a departure from the traditional approach, sorcerers in the latest Unearthed Arcana for One D&D’s playtest 5 will no longer select their subclass at level three. Instead, alteration allows players to delve into the class and grasp its mechanics before committing to a specific sorcerer origin, giving them a chance to better explore the intricacies of the sorcerer class.
One prominent feature of this new D&D playtest is the immediate bestowal of two spells upon sorcerers: chaos bolt and the freshly introduced sorcerous burst. Sorcerous burst, being an evocation cantrip, possesses a range of 120 feet and offers some intriguing aspects. Firstly, players have the liberty to choose the damage type for this spell, granting them substantial control over their sorcerer’s destructive abilities.
Furthermore, sorcerous burst provides an opportunity for explosive damage. Whenever s player rolls a six on the d6 damage die, they gain the privilege to roll an additional d6 and add it to the damage. The number of d6s that can be added to the spell’s damage corresponds to the character’s spellcasting ability modifier, opening up the potential for tremendous amounts of damage from a mere D&D cantrip.

A Major Transformation in D&D’s Barbarian Rage Mechanic
Moving on, Barbarians have received a significant update to one of their core mechanics, specifically how Rage is maintained. With the proposed changes, the barbarian will no longer need to take or deal damage to sustain their Rage. Instead, One D&D players have three options available to them, increasing the versatility of this ability.
Players will be able to extend their Rage by attacking an enemy, forcing an enemy to make a saving throw, or using a bonus action. By incorporating these extensions, a barbarian’s Rage can last longer, reaching a maximum duration of 10 minutes. With this new Dungeons & Dragons mechanic, it becomes plausible for a single Rage to soan across multiple encounters, enhancing its usefulness at low levels.
D&D’s New Weapons Feature Unveiled
Warlocks are undergoing significant changes regarding their Pacts, as they will no longer be tied to a patron from the start. To maintain consistent progression across all D&D classes, the decision to choose a warlock subclass has been moved from level one to level three, aligning with other classes. As a result, when players create a new warlock character in One D&D, they will select a Pact Boonn] two levels before choosing their warlock patron.
The available Pact Boons include Pact of the Blade, Pact of the Chain, and Pact of the Tome, each offering different styles of play for warlocks. This arrangement creates a sort of miniature pact, introducing the potential for warlock characters to have two entities vying for their soul, leading to that key warlock spells such as Eldrich blast and hex are now automatically prepared and no longer requiring spell slots.
