City Hunter Anime Film: Updates
City Hunter is an immensely popular series that received several adaptations from all across the world. From OVAs in Japan to live-action movies in Hong Kong (they even got the legendary Jackie Chan to star in it), the series pleased a large number of fans, who left behind even happier reviews.
To celebrate the anime series’ 35th anniversary, the creators decided to announce and make “City Hunter The Movie: Angel Dust”, which is all ready for its debut on September 8. The trailer teases the theme songs of the anime; the opening song, Whatever Comes, and the ending song, Get Wild, are performed by TM Network.
The trailer gives us a glimpse of the new cast and characters in the film, including Angie, voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro, Shin Kaibara, voiced by Kenyuu Horiuchi, Pirarucu, voiced by Tomokazu Seki and Espada, voiced by Subaru Kimura.
Angie is a movie producer who came to Japan to shoot a movie about her cat but lost her cat in the process. She reaches out to City Hunter for his help. Shin Kaibara is a mercenary leader who raised Ryō as a warrior as he had battle-fighting experience. Finally, Pirarucu and Espada are members of the “Wetworks” assassination team.
The film will also feature three characters from the “Cat’s Eye” anime, namely Keiko Toda voicing Hitomi, Chika Sakamoto voicing Ai, and Rica Fukami voicing Rui.
What’s the Series About?
Ryo Saeba, aka the legendary City Hunter, is the most charismatic and unconventional private detective you can get your hands on. As a sweeper, he can take on any task, be it bodyguarding or even contract killing, but what’s the catch? Ryo has a weakness for beautiful women, and his interest sneakily peeps out when one is involved in the job.
Don’t worry; he also greatly appreciates sincerity and will take the job if he thinks it’s genuine. Alongside his partner, Kaori Makimura, the younger sister of his late best friend, Hideyuki Makimura, Ryo becomes Tokyo’s Batman and fights all crimes that anyone dares to commit. Together, they form an unbeatable duo who are determined to protect the innocent, along with some playful banter, of course.
Worth a Watch?
With a score of 7.9 on My Anime List, the City Hunter anime series got uncountable happy reviews. Many fans gave the series an overall 10/10, claiming this old-school crime comedy delivers more than a satisfying watch. A remarkable marksman, Ryo will never miss a shot on his target and will never miss a chance to hit on the women.
“The combination of action and comedy is perfect and very addicting”, said a reviewer. With over 100 episodes, the anime only gets better, and the jokes fail to run stale. With engaging stories and realistic character interactions, the scriptwriting is beyond fantastic. So if you’re looking for a fun, serious at times, and interesting series to spend your time watching, City Hunter might just be the thing for you.
