Another year, another season of RuPaul putting together a bunch of dudes who like to dress to what they think is a lady, to rough quote that Aerosmith song. In any case, it’s a show about a dozen men playing dress-up in hopes of winning two hundred grand, a spot in a drag queen hall of Fame, and a bunch of makeup.
This eighth season is the third one in a row to be featured in Paramount+, which seems like it will be the show’s home. In any case, this iteration of RuPaul’s drag race features the best contestants from seasons 2 to 13 from the original RuPaul’s drag race in a contest for the biggest prize so far.
With twelve contestants vying for the thousands of dollars at stake, they will have to bring their best game at makeup, dresses, and pretty much every other challenge that RuPaul and the demanding judges throw their way. There’ll be drama; there’ll be eliminations, and lots of glitters in this long-running LGBT-oriented program that has enough seasons to whip up a contest for the previous contestants.
RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars Season 8 Episode 2 Recap
In the first two episodes, RuPaul laid down the rules for the competition, explained what was at stake, and put the twelve men playing dress-up for a few challenges. After the debut episode, we were left with Heidi N Closet, Alexis Michelle, Jaymes Mansfield, Danierrne Lake, Jimbo, Lala Ri, Kahanna Montrese, Naysha Lopez, and Mrs. Kasha Davis.
As it turns out, Kahanna did some conspiring in the dressing room after the elimination saying that Monica would’ve gotten the boot if it was up to him, but Kahanna chose to save Darienne from the cut because they’re on the same team. So in the group vote, four dudes voted against Darienne. That ruffled some feathers because Kandy acknowledged that it was personal. Then we move on to Jaymes and Lala, who are sidelined with Kandy. Then Darienne promised not to conspire, but it seems that three of these dudes are going home.
Everyone was excited about the new “Fame Games” twist because not only does it give the fans a say in who wins money, but it also means that although eliminated, the show’s participants’ looks will still get showcased and compete. This is a big deal for the many artists they hire to design their looks, whose careers can get huge boosts from the PR stunts.
The next morning, Ru told everyone about the next maxi challenge: the sketch comedy show “RDR Live.” On the show, they had to pick roles and practice before putting on their sketches in front of the judges. Ru told the men that they shouldn’t just focus on being pretty but that they should also try to be funny.
This was a not-so-subtle way of telling these dudes not to worry about looking bad in this performance challenge. After the comedy show, RuPaul sent the Kandy, Jessica, Darienne, Alexis, and Kasha to the Werk Room. Five dudes took heavy criticism. Jimbo was the top performer. When it came to the vote, Naysha was eliminated.
