Shigeru Mizuki’s well-followed manga Akuma Kun (1963) is getting a new anime adaptation. The 100th-year commemoration of the birth of Shigeru Mizuki, who passed away in 2015, has four big projects in the pipeline. One of the four projects is the new anime adaptation of Akuma Kun, which is set to premiere on Netflix in 2023.
The story revolves around Akuma Kun, who is a boy genius who only comes along once in 10,000 years. Akuma Kun’s aim is to create an ideal world where there is no sign of conflict or hunger. He has help in the form of demons and the twelve apostles.
Akuma Kun’s adventures begin with Dr. Faust, who has foreseen the rise of evil. Although he wants to, Dr. Faust is near the end of his life and is in no position to fight the battle himself. That is when a young boy named Shingo Yamada comes along, bearing a mark on his forehead.
This mark lets Dr. Faust identify young Shingo as the one who has been chosen to fight the evil forces that are on the rise. After entrusting the responsibility to Shingo, Dr. Faust summons a not-so-enthusiastic devil named Mephisto to help the young boy shoulder his responsibilities. With a blood pact to save the world, Mephisto and Shingo set out on their journey to battle evil.
