Our Dating Sim Episodes 1 & 2 Recap
Episode 1 opens with Ki Tae and Lee Wan getting ready for work. On one hand, Ki Tae is seen to be calm and composed and tries to solve a programming problem of a game while getting ready. On the other hand, Lee Wan is just the opposite. He is seen to be running late for his job interview at ‘Re: Try.’
On reaching the office, after Wan haphazardly enters the elevator, he notices Ki Tae. Wan thinks that he bumped into a look-alike of Ki Tae, who was his high school best friend cum crush. Ki Tae also side-eyes Wan but does not turn around.
Next, Wan introduces himself to the CEO of ‘Re: Try.’ The CEO seems to be a jolly and frank person. He warmly welcomes Wan. They are soon joined by Ki Tae, which shocks Wan. Ki Tae introduces himself as a planner and developer of games in the company.
Shocked Wan, then, realizes that Ki Tae is actually his high school best friend. But Ki Tae pretends not to recognize Wan. Wan gets reminded of the day he kissed Ki Tae. Lost in thought, Wan forgets to shake hands with Ki Tae. So, Ki Tae forcibly shakes hands with him.
Next, as the interview starts, the CEO tells him about the dating simulator game they are planning to develop. He further tells him that he contacted Wan after seeing his webtoon blogs. He was impressed with his artwork. So, he grabbed the opportunity to contact him before anyone else.
Wan and CEO’s conversation is interrupted by Ki Tae when he asks Wan whether he played their previous game. When Wan replies positively, Ki Tae asks about the ending of the game. Wan says that the game ended after the player escaped from the building in the game.
Ki Tae further puts Wan on a hot seat by asking him some complicated situational questions. Wan is stunned to hear those. Ki Tae does not wait much for his answers and informs him that they are planning to launch the game in three months which will include a lot of overtime and disagreements. Therefore, he should not escape from the situation.
Wan thinks that he never expected to meet Ki Tae under such circumstances. While leaving, the CEO asks Ki Tae to see off Wan, even after Wan’s constant denial. After the CEO leaves, Ki Tae and Wan are joined by Jamie.
In the elevator, Ki Tae is addressed as Eddy (his gaming name) by Jamie. Wan on the other hand feels awkward standing there. Suddenly, Ki Tae asks Wan whether he is dating anyone, which surprises Wan. Ki Tae further explains that he asked the question as they are going to develop a dating simulator game. But Wan does not answer. As soon as the elevator door opens, he runs out of it.
Later, Jamie tells Ki Tae that she found Wan to be cute because he has a cute face with deer-like eyes. On the other hand, Wan reveals through the voiceover that he met his failed first love at a job interview after seven years.
Then the episode goes to a flashback of 7 years ago. In the flashback, Wan’s family is seen to be shifting after getting bankrupt. Wan is seen standing there with a camera, contemplating whether he should meet Ki Tae for the last time and confess his love.
At that moment, Wan receives a message from Ki Tae where he asks him to join him with for drinks after graduation. Reading the message, Wan rushes to his school building. On the other hand, Ki Tae is seen waiting with his two friends on the terrace of the school for Wan. Wan arrives there in a rush and tells Ki Tae that he wants to talk to him in private.
The episode ends with Ki Tae and Wan’s friends leaving and subsequently, Wan leaning towards Ki Tae and kissing him, which shocks Ki Tae.
Episode 2 opens with Wan sitting somewhere by the road, after the job interview when he gets a message from the CEO of Re: Try, asking him to work on the dating game together. When Wan is about to refuse the offer, he gets reminded of his past.
The flashback takes us to seven years ago when Wan arrives at the terrace of the school building, where Ki Tae and their two friends are waiting for him. On seeing Wan’s camera, Ki Tae becomes happy and asks his friends to click some photos of them.
After clicking photos, the friends leave Ki Tae and Wan alone at Wan’s request. After they leave, Wan gathers all his courage and confesses his love for Ki Tae. At first, Ki Tae does not understand it and tells him that he likes him too. But Wan corrects him and says that he likes him romantically, and leans forward and kisses him.
The kiss shocks Ki Tae as he takes a few steps back. Wan, before listening to what Ki Tae has to say, runs away from there after apologizing to him. Ki Tae follows Wan but loses him. Worried Ki Tae, when he gets a call from his friends, asks them whether they have Wan’s home telephone number. But they say that they don’t.
On the other hand, Wan leaves his camera on a desk in a storage room and runs away forever. After a few months, Wan is seen working at a restaurant. He says in the voiceover that he expects Ki Tae to find him and come to him. But he knows that it would never happen.
Meanwhile, Ki Tae is seen enjoying himself with his friends but it is all pretense. After his friends leave, he looks at all the messages he has sent to Wan and misses him. He feels that he was abandoned by his only best friend.
After a few months, in his lowest times, Ki Tae had the urge to contact Wan and tell him about his problems. But he could not bring himself to contact him.
After a few years, Wan is seen drawing sketches and webtoons. He says in the voiceover that initially he started drawing to stop missing Ki Tae but soon drawing became his everything. He gets happy to see some comments from the user “Gameboy,” as the user keeps appreciating his blog content.
Soon Wan gets his first job offer, which gives him hope that he is going to start his life afresh. Unfortunately, Wan does not get hired as the company was not satisfied with his similar-looking character sketches. At the interview, he asks HR about his identity and whether his username is “Gameboy,” who has been posting comments on Wan’s blogs. But HR denies it.
After leaving the office building, Wan gets a call from the CEO of Re: Try, who summons him for an interview.
Back to the present. When Wan is seen to be contemplating whether to join Re: Try or not, he gets a notification from “Gameboy.” Gameboy appreciates the latest episode of his blog and mentions that he hopes that the main character of the blog does not run away at the end of the blog.
Reading the comment, Wan feels happy and replies to him back, thanking him for always rooting for him and assuring him that he won’t run away. Subsequently, Wan replies to the CEO’s message saying that he is ready to work with them.
Wan thanks his mysterious supporter, for whom, he chooses not to run away this time. He expects this time to be different from what it was seven years ago.
The episode ends with Ki Tae sitting in his room in front of his computer. He has Wan’s camera on his table. Then it is revealed through his desktop screen that Ki Tae is actually the mysterious supporter of Wan, who shares the username “Gameboy.”
