These contestants are invited to live in a provided apartment in the city where the season is taking place at the time. They do not have a lot of contact with the outside world and solely have their focus cast on creating dishes and ranking well on the screen.
There are two challenges that happen in every episode. The first one is a Quickfire Challenge, and the second we see is an Elimination Challenge. In the first one, Quickfire Challenge, the chefs are required to make something that has a bit of a rule to it. The host describes them all to the contestants before the round commences.
It could be anything, any particular ingredient or tool which has to be used or avoided during the cooking process. The winner of this round gets immunity from the next Elimination Challenge. If not this, then the fan is also be rewarded with any other benefit against the Elimination Challenge.
Later in the Elimination Challenge, we see that the remaining chefs are required to prepare yet another dish for the judges and meet the requirements that are set beforehand. As is already signed by the title of this challenge, whoever loses in this one, has to go home.
The format is pretty simple and takes place until there are only a handful of chefs left to compete against each other. As we reach the final rounds of the game, the contestants are required to prepare a full-course meal for the judges. As the judges test the food out, the best meal course chef is named the Top Chef for the season.
