I’m assuming that you just finished watching the anime called “Rising of the Shield Hero” or Tate no Yūsha no Nariagari. You probably loved watching this anime so much that you want to see more of it. Unfortunately, there is no 2nd season of the anime yet. Although, it is set to release on 22nd April of 2022.

The Rising of the Shield Hero Anime Plot
The Rising of the shield hero is an isekai genre anime. Isekai genre is a fantasy genre where the main character is transported from their world into a new one. Iwatani Naofumi is the main character of the Rising of the shield hero. He is summoned to another world to become one of the four heroes.

The name of these heroes is “Shield Hero”. Even though Naofumi is summoned to a new world, he is unpopular and the weakest hero in this new world. And on the third day of his adventure, he is betrayed. Now, Naofumi has no money nor faith in the people of this new world. Naofumi vows to take revenge on the people who betrayed him, and he has nothing but his shield beside him.
The adventure that follows in this anime is great. And Probably why you want to see more of it. So for today’s post, let’s a look at some of the anime which are similar to Rising of the shield hero.
1) Grimgar of Fantasy and Ash
Grimgar of fantasy and ash or Hai to Gensou no Grimgal is an anime about the main character Haruhito and a group of kids who suddenly find themselves in the dark. Together, they advance away from the dark only to find themselves in a new world called “Grimgar”. In this world, they have to fight to survive. While the strong kids make their group and set off on their adventures, we follow the group of weak kids.
Although this anime is similar to the Rising of the shield hero, there are a few things that are different. For instance, unlike the Rising of the shield hero, the characters in this anime do not get any special abilities. These are really weak children, and they must survive this cruel world without any powers. This great thing about this anime is that it shows realism. If you love hardship, survival, and a lot of effort that is put in to achieve things, then this anime is for you.

2) Log Horizon
The first season of Log Horizon came in 2013. It consists of 50 episodes divided into 2 seasons. The anime follows a college student named Shiro, who is magically transported into a popular MMORPG game alongside 30,000 more players. These players now have to live in this game. And even if you die, you will be respawned.
The anime is focused on world-building, and we get to see the development from the perspective of the mastermind. Unlike many great anime characters, Shiro is a back-laid guy who analyzes the situation and uses his brilliant strategies to overcome situations. You’ll get to see a lot of politics and tactics in this anime. Guilds and communities have been formed to maintain peace. While we see the development of the world, we also see the mastermind of Shiro, who controls the flow of the anime from behind.
3)The Ancient Magus’ Bride (Mahoutsukai no Yome)
Raphtalia in the Rising of the shield hero was seen as a slave who was bought by Naofumi out of pity and who happens to be there. But in Mahoutsukai no Yome, the anime shows the drive and motive of the master buying the slave.
Chise Hatori loses all of her hope in life, and with no place or no one to go, she sells her as a slave to anyone willing to buy her and give her a place to live. Elias Ainsworth is a boneheaded-looking mage, and his world is of dragons and fairies. He buys Chise Hatori and makes her his apprentice. Long before, Chise could understand the new world and its nonsense, Elias told her that Chise has to be his wife. In this slice of life anime, you’ll get to see great adventures.
4) Arifureta – From Commonplace to World’s Strongest
This anime is most similar to the Rising of the shield hero. In this anime, the entire class is transported to another, including the teacher. Every student who is transported is considered a hero. While everyone has received a great ability with the title of the hero, Nagumo Hajime, our protagonist is the only one with the so-called “weak” ability. He then falls into the depth of the abyss when he was exploring the dungeon. Nagumo Hajime then finds something. Watch the anime to know more.
The plot of the anime is like a mirror to the Rising in the shield of the hero. Both of the protagonists of the anime are called into a new world, called a hero, are expected to save the world, have a really weak ability, both are betrayed, and the first companion is a female character. If you enjoyed the struggle and uprising of Iwatani Naofumi, then you’ll enjoy the struggle and uprising of Nagumo Hajime too.

5) Overlord
Your beloved game is about to shut down on its last day. So as a beloved gamer, you decided to stay until the last moment of the game because you love it so much and want to enjoy every last moment of it. Rather than being kicked off of the game’s server as you expected, what if you are transported in the real version of the game. Moreover, you are transported as the character you were playing? Would that be something amazing or scary?
This is what happens with the protagonist of the Overlord anime, Momonga. He is transported in the game in his skeleton body. The character is the dark wizard who controls a guild called “Ainz Ooal Gown”. This anime is similar to the Rising of the shield hero due to its game-like mechanics. Both start as a villain and must adapt game-like fantasy world.
6) That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime
Unlike the Isekai genre, where you are transported into another, in this anime, we see our protagonist reincarnated into another world. A 37-year-old man is stabbed in the back while he was trying to rescue a woman from a thief. He knows he is about to die, and the only regret he has is that he is a virgin. His last words to his colleague were, “Tch!! You’re off the hook, man. Just make sure she’s happy. And take care of my pc…” I guess we all know what he meant by these words.
While dying, he hears a robotic voice that says, “predator skills, Unlocked”. Just as soon as he opens his eyes, he realizes that he is reincarnated, and it is as a slime to the matter. A sage within him functions as a guide, like in a game. While the anime tells a great tale of adventure and world-building, you’ll also enjoy the politics, character developments, story-telling, and great action-comedy in the anime.
7) Re: Zero − Starting Life in Another World
Also, another interesting and similar anime to the risiRisingthe shield hero and my favorite among this list, Re: Zero. While shopping in a convenience store, Subaru Natsuki, a high school student, suddenly hears a strange voice of a girl. “Just you wait, I’m definitely going find a way to save you,” says Subaru Natsuki. Then he finds himself in the market of the medieval age.
The story starts with him meeting a girl who calls herself “Satela”. He was being robbed by some thieves, and this girl saved him. He follows her in the hopes of repaying her for her kindness. But she is followed by a dark trail. Eventually, this dark trail kills both the girl and Subura. However, Subaru is alive again and finds himself again in the market of the capital. He is in an endless loop. Each time the series of events that happens are the same. He must find a way to get out of the situation without being dead.
I’m telling you, you’ll love this anime is so freaking much. The pain this anime follows, plot twists, character developments are insane. And also, there are a lot of cute, adorable, and yet strong girls are there. Just as much as you loved the adventure of the risiRisingthe shield hero, you’ll also love re: zero – starting life in another world as much.
