Queen Sugar Season 7 Plot
Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar is a drama series that chronicles the lives and loves of the Bordelons, an African-American family based in Louisiana present day. The seventh and final season of the show is set to pick up six months after the events of Season 6, when we had last seen the Bordelon family as Darla, and Ralph Angel introduced their new baby to the family.
The new season is most probable to follow quite the exciting dynamic between new couple Dominic and Nova, especially after the intense build-up that the two would eventually get together, which we got to see in the previous season. Given that the Bordelons are an extremely close bunch, it will be interesting to see if Dominic fits in or not.
Considering the recent financial issues that Ralph Angel and Darla had faced after having their crops poisoned the season before, welcoming a new baby girl is certain to bring a turning point in their relationship as husband and wife. Viewers are particularly curious to see what it means for Ralph Angel’s career after his farm was declared a historical site.
Fans may also expect to see the relationship between Vi and Hollywood, which seems to keep evolving, plus the journey of young Blue and Micah as they continue their journey of adulting while the former also tries to figure out his role as a new big brother.
Queen Sugar Season 7 Cast
Most of the major players of the Bordelon family, including their extended family, have returned for Season 7 of Queen Sugar to the fans’ delight as it will provide them with some much-needed closure as each of the characters had a lot going on in their lives.
The main actors featured in the ensemble cast of the seventh and final season of Queen Sugar features Rutina Wesley as Nova Bordelon, Kofi Siriboe as Ralph Angel Bordelon, Nicholas L. Ashe as Micah West, Vampire Diaries fame Bianca Lawson as Darla Sutton, Tina Lifford as Violet Bordelon, Omar J. Dorsey as Hollywood Desonier, Henry G. Sanders as Prosper Denton, and last but not the least Ethan Hutchinson as Blue Bordelon.
It is worth noting that Dawn-Lyen Gardner known for her roles in Luke Cage and God Friended Me, who plays Charlotte “Charley” Bordelon West in Queen Sugar, will not make an appearance in its final season. However, the beloved character will be featured in some capacity.
In addition, Tammy Townsend, popular for Lincoln Heights and K.C. Undercover, who is Billie Denton in the final season of Queen Sugar, will have considerably more screentime in the show as she is set to play quite a big role in Ralph Angel’s fight for farmers’ rights.

Ava DuVernay, who serves as the series creator, reflected on the past seven seasons of the show, saying that Queen Sugar was one of the true joys of her career and that her gratitude for its success was buoyant and boundless.
More importantly, in a statement shared on Oprah Daily, DuVernay shared that it was a radical act in Hollywood to write and produce seven seasons of a modern drama focused on a Black family. But it was a triumph that had exceeded every hope that she had held.
Queen Sugar had started as a suggestion from Oprah Winfrey, and since its inception, it has managed to garner large-scale love from viewers for its portrayal of Black culture, especially in the south, and its navigation of relatable family dynamics.
Therefore, it leaves no doubt as to why it is hard to accept that the show will not return after the ongoing season. Tune in on Tuesdays to see how the Bordelon family intends to say goodbye.
