Remember when Vice did real journalism? The demise of this network after Shane Smith got rid of it is evident, and proof of it is One Star Reviews, in which the host risks life and limb to rate poor services and business in the widely available service industry in America. What a contrast from the days when Vice journos went underground to conflict areas to talk to rebels.
In any case, this show is in its sophomore season, if you’re into gonzo journalism and in for some stoner laughs, you’ll enjoy watching Taji Ameen doing really nasty stuff, from putting stuff in his body, purchasing services that could risk him the loss of several thousand dollars, or even food poisoning from bad fish restaurants.
One Star Reviews Season 2 Episode 8 & 7 Recap
In the last two episodes of One Star Reviews, we saw Taji going to a doctor with poor reviews to have a skin treatment. From the get-go, we see that the office is the kind of place you’d go to if you want to score some drugs. This is Vice after all. Then, Taji talks to the doctor and has a chemical peel, he complains, and comments about the bad service.
After having his face chemically scarred with shady chemicals, our host goes to a very nasty buffet that makes you wonder if after eating there, the man had a broad-spectrum antibiotic dose as a prophylactic measure.
Then in the following episode, this man takes it further because he goes to a pretty nasty dental office to get his teeth whitened, he doesn’t like the experience, his teeth fall back to the regular color after a couple of days.
Then, Taji hires a shady moving company to help someone move their stuff from one place to another and you wonder if that mover isn’t going to steal the stuff or break all the boxes labeled “Fragile”.
