Everyone loves a good time travel story; it has become a popular sub-plot over the past few years. People often relate to the feeling of regret and wanting to start over again from the beginning. “Return of the Legend” is a similar story with heart-warming and wholesome scenes, which makes the audience root for our protagonist even more. Jang Taesan has repeatedly failed at life, with nothing to show for as an accomplishment. Taesan failed the bar exam and ended up working as security in a stockbroker company. Although he had worked hard to become a permanent employee, Taesan was still a poor man with nothing left in his life. After the company he worked for went bankrupt during the second IMF, Taesan was left unemployed and penniless.

Taesan was still a kindhearted man, and the hardships hadn’t broken down his spirit. Walking along the Han River, he saw a young boy walking across the street, oblivious to the car speeding towards him. In an attempt to save the kid, Taesan ended up dealing with the full impact of the car and died. In his final moments, an old sage who claimed to be Taesan’s ancestor gave him a gift – a second chance to redo his life. 

Equipped with the knowledge of stocks and the questions in bar exam, Taesan is ready to win at his life now. Not only that, the ancestor imparted the knowledge of  Taichi to him, making him stronger than before. It is now up to Taesan on how he improves his life and finally lead a life that is fulfilling.

Return of the Legend: Chapter 87 Recap

In the previous chapter, Taesan decides to visit the art gallery. When Taesan presents his black American Express card at the reception, the receptionist immediately asks to provide him with an exclusive curator. But Taesan has something else in mind and declines her offer, asking to view the gallery alone. Taesan is drawn to Van Gogh’s masterpiece “Starry Night” as he admires the mystical beauty of the painting.

A woman standing next to him begins speaking about how Starry Night is a representation of Van Gogh’s desire to suicide and symbolizes death. The painting was drawn at the Sanitarium when Van Gogh cut his ear off after an argument with Gauguin. The woman expressed her belief that the painting symbolized Van Gogh’s attempt at salvation, which makes sense since he committed suicide later on. 

Taesan refuses her claims saying that Van Gogh never really committed suicide and that he would be very upset if he got to know that people think otherwise. The woman is quite confused and shocked and Taesan’s absurd and bold proclamation. She asks Taesan what he means in a bewildered manner, but Taesan moves on without answering her question. Taesan moves on to admire Paul Cezanne’s painting next when he notices a discrepancy.

Taesan claims that Paul Cezanne’s piece Chateau is actually a fake which causes quite a stir among the people, and the woman, whose name is Sarah calls the head curator to deal with Taesan. Taesan describes why he thinks the painting is fake, but the museum people wouldn’t budge. Taesan makes a deal that if he can draw the replica, they will have to admit that Chateau is a fake and take it down.
