It is a TV series directed by Ayhan Ozen and Serkan Mut, whose season 1 was released in the year 2022 on the 21st of November, which. Got ended recently and has too many episodes to catch up on. And so, this article will provide the review and plot of the Tv series Esaret which will help you decide whether you want to watch it.
Plot and Review of Esaret
The Turkish Tv series Esaret is a complex story of love, revenge, chaos, thrill, and drama. The plot follows the story of Orhun (played by Cenk Torun), a successful businessman who was born with a silver spoon but a family with no love amongst them. He lives with his twin sister Nursah and their cold and not-so-loving mother, Afife (played by Melahat Abbasova). Nursah goes on her way to becoming a doctor and cannot keep in touch with her family.
Orhun discovers that her sister is killed by getting poisoned by a local gang. He completely broke down and could not accept losing his sibling. While looking into it, he comes across Hira (played by Mahassine Mera Bet), a poor girl living at the hands of traffickers but later gets to know that Hira was the one who poisoned her sister.
A Complicated Revenge Story
The story revolves around Orhun and Hira, who met in Africa when he went there to meet her sister and found a woman (Hira) struggling because of a gang of thugs. He saves her but is devasted when he unveils the fact happens that Hira is the one who is behind her sister’s death, marking the beginning of an evil yet complicated revenge plan. He plots an evil revenge plan which will worsen Hira’s life, making it difficult to live.
Well, this is just the start, and from here, things become more complicated when he finds out that the story he knew about their father’s death was all a lie told by his mother. So, to avenge this, he decides to marry Hira, the one who poisoned his sister. All this is just for driving her mother as she despises the ones with low status and is obsessed with “pure blood.”
The series is filled with twists, turns, and complications at every step. I liked how well-connected the plot is and how things are becoming more complicated and puzzling. The concept and one-by-one arrival of difficult situations keep the viewers more interested. The very nature of curiosity is maintained in the series, becoming a liking factor.
Coming to the act, the part of the lead characters is what I feel sets the mood of the series. Especially in a thriller series, if the characters’ dark mood and right acting are not seen, it often disconnects a viewer from the story, but Esaret’s cast members did a good job at it. I liked the performance of both Cenk and Mahassine.
While having positive parts, it has some flaws too. Yet a too-elaborated plot with many episodes might be an off-point for some viewers. Also, if you have watched many thriller series, it depicts the same violence on women as most.
The show is also criticized for its portrayal of women, mostly about Hira. But the change of emotions in the series did help in changing the perception giving it a new direction. So, if you like thriller and drama series, this will surely be a good recommendation for you to watch.

Our Verdict
I understand the efforts of crafting a long thriller series which even turned out well. The gripping narrative, well showcasing of chemistry between the protagonists, and the combination of chaos, tension, love, revenge, and complications are key features that attracted me as a viewer. But it could have been better regarding character portrayals and negative characteristics. Nevertheless, it has a good plot and acting, eventually making it good to watch.
Our Rating: ⭐ (3.5/5).
