From Muzan to Yoroichi, there are a number of strong characters in Demon Slayer, but who is the strongest demon slayer character? We will get to that. In case you do not know the story of Demon Slayer, it is about a young man named Tanjiro Kamado who lives in the highlands with his family.
After his father passed away, he took over the role of family provider by traveling to the surrounding hamlet to sell charcoal. His world came down, crushing, when one day he came back only to find that a monster had attacked and killed his family.
The only survivors of the catastrophe were Tanjiro and his sister Nezuko, who, although being changed into a demonic creature, surprised everyone by still displaying human thoughts and emotions.
Tanjiro is taken to his former teacher Sakonji Urokodaki for preparation in order to become a demon slayer after meeting Giyu Tomioka, the Water Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps.
This begins Tanjiro’s mission to aid his sister in becoming human once more and avenge the deaths of his family. Tanjiro participates in a difficult exam following 2 years of arduous practice and is one of the few people to survive, earning him a member of the Demon Slayer Corps.
Accompanying Nezuko, who has recently been hypnotized to cause no harm to humanity and who occasionally assists him in a fight, he begins his mission of locating and eliminating demons.
One of Tanjiro’s tasks takes him to Asakusa, where he meets Muzan Kibutsuji, the originator of all demons and the person who killed his family. He also encounters Tamayo and Yushiro, two demons who have escaped Muzan’s influence.

25 Strongest Demon Slayer Characters Ranked: All of the Fan Favorites
There will be a total of 25 characters on the list. They will be listed in order of strength, with the first one being by far the toughest and the 25th one representing the lowest.
25. Kaigaku
“Until you die, you haven’t lost. You may rub your face in the dirt… you may lose your home or drink muddy water… people may curse you for stealing money… but as long as you live on… you can win someday. You will win. I have moved forward with that belief.” – Kaigaku.
Kaigaku is incredibly strong because he belongs to the Upper Ranks. Kaigaku is an exceptionally lethal demon due to his mastery of the sword and his proficiency as a Demon Slayer.
Users of Total Concentration Breathing are much more resistant to the consequences of the Demon King’s blood, which is demonstrated by the fact that Kaigaku needed a significant amount of Muzan Kibutsuji’s blood to turn into a demon.
Zenitsu also pointed out that Kaigaku had consumed a lot of humans in the brief time between both the Hashira Training Arc and the Infinity Castle Arc, farther and farther attesting to his strength.
24. Enmu
“All human hearts are the same. So fragile and weak, like glasswork.” – Enmu
Enmu was the most powerful Lower Rank one and came the closest to approaching the power of the Upper Ranks. His skills were significantly improved after taking additional blood from Muzan Kibutsuji. The extent of Enmu’s capacity to transfigure was demonstrated whenever he was able to combine with a train-sized vehicle.
Moreover, he was able to put over 200 people on the Mugen Train, notably notables like the Hashira Kyojuro Rengoku, to sleep and make them defenseless nearly entirely because of his unusual blood demonic art based on sleep.
Enmu was capable of maintaining his own in direct conflict against Tanjiro Kamado, who’d already learned Total Concentration and Constant and was adept at dodging his sword strikes and routinely driving the Demon Slayer to sleep with spells.
23. Mitsuri Kanroji
“Is it okay for a girl to be this strong? I still worry that someone may ask that, as though I’m not human. In my fear, I was suppressing my strength. But not anymore. Leave this to me. I will protect everyone.”- Mitsuri Kanroji
Mitsuri is an extremely strong and adept combatant as a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. Kyojuro Rengoku deems it exceptional that she finished the Final Selection in just six months of preparation.
Her skills were put to the test in the Swordsmith Village arc when she swiftly subdued and vanquished a cluster of demons summoned by Upper-Rank Five, Gyokko, and later played a significant role in the battle against Upper-Rank Four, Hantengu, particularly against his clone, “Zohakuten,” which retains the mighty power of four Upper-Rank demons.
Till dawn, Mitsuri managed to hold off the extraordinarily strong Upper Rank with the aid of her Demon Slayer Mark.
22. Shinobu Kocho
“I once believed that the road of happiness continued forever and ever into the distance. When it was destroyed, I realized for the first time that it lies upon a thin sheet of glass.” – Shinobu Kocho
Shinobu is an extremely strong and adept fighter who serves as a Hashira in the Demon Slayer Corps. Shinobu uses her resourcefulness, inventiveness, as well as other physical capabilities in order to make up for her lack of the physical power necessary to cut off a demon’s head like an average Demon Slayer.
Shinobu chooses to utilize a specialized katana that functions as a stinger to inject deadly Wisteria venom, which is toxic to demons, instead of the conventional technique of killing a demon by brutally murdering it with a Nichirin Sword.
She is incredibly swift and nimble, in addition to being intelligent, which gives her a quick advantage over demons. Her ability to go toe-to-toe with demons, even trying to manage to overwhelm him slightly and win Doma’s admiration, demonstrated her actual might during her encounter with the second-most potent Upper-Rank demon.
21. Kanao Tsuyuri
“Somehow, I feel the people I care for and those important to me will still be alive tomorrow. But that’s just my hope, and there’s no way I can promise that with any certainty. Why do people… believe such things?” – Kanao Tsuyuri
Kanao has received individualized instruction in the art of fighting from both Kanae and Shinobu, who is her Tsuguko. Kanao might eventually join the Demon Slayer Corps’ Hashira because of her incredible physical proficiency and other physical capabilities.
Kanao’s abilities are further supported by the testimony of Tanjiro, another prospective candidate, who claims that even before they had even met, he could tell that she was the most similar to Hashira of all the Demon Slayers simply from smelting her and sensing her aura.
20. Inosuke Hashibira
“Don’t cry even if you have regrets! No matter how pathetic or humiliated you feel, you still have to go on living!”- Inosuke Hashibira
Inosuke is an extremely gifted and knowledgeable swordsman because, despite receiving no professional training, he was capable of learning Total Concentration Breathing on his own, creating Beast Breathing, his own breathing technique based on his instincts and his early life among wild boars in the hills, and win the Final Selection to develop into a Demon Slayer.
Inosuke is well capable of pursuing and eliminating demons on his own, as evidenced by the ease with which he dispatched the Horned Demon. He has demonstrated on numerous occasions that he is capable of competing and making a contribution in battles with the Twelve Kizuki’s Upper-Rank demons, including Upper-Rank Six Gyutaro and Daki and the considerably more powerful Upper-Rank Two Doma.
He is also highly gifted, with extraordinary dexterity, otherworldly reflexes, and an innate knack for warfare. Most astonishingly, Inosuke and his allies were able to repel Muzan, the Demon King, while sharing the same level of combat prowess as Hashira, the best swordsman amongst Demon Slayers.
19. Zenitsu Agatsuma
“I hate myself more than anyone. I always think I have to get my act together, but I end up cowering, running away, sniveling. I want to change. I want to be a competent person.” – Zenitsu Agatsuma
Though he disputes it, Zenitsu gives off the impression of being a talented and skilled Demon Slayer right away. As his nerves that ordinarily prevent him from gaining his full capacity give out as he sleeps, Zenitsu’s true mettle wakes.
This makes him more sage, serene, and accurate in battle, which enabled him to swiftly and brutally murder the Tongue Demon and destroy the Son Spider Demon all by himself. Later, when Lower Rank One Enmu and Nezuko were attacking 3 full railway carriages, he was able to defend them.
A few months later, with Inosuke’s help, he was able to face off against an awoken Daki before blitzing her with Thunderclap then Flash: Godspeed.
18. Obanai Iguro
“I want to die defeating Muzan, and I pray that it will purify my filthy blood. Then, if I am reborn as a human being in a peaceful world without demons, I will tell you of my feelings for you.” – Obanai Iguro
Obanai, a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, is an extremely strong and adept fighter. He was discovered to have a degree of blindness in his right eye, therefore he only had one functional eye when he rose to the top of the Demon Slayer Corps.
This makes Obanai’s achievement of Hashira rank all the more remarkable, especially considering his weak physical makeup and physical limitations (possibly brought on by his tough childhood). Obanai was capable of effortlessly beheading a lot of demons who were on par with Lower Ranks, even during Infinity Castle Arc, and restraining the recently hired Upper-Rank Four, Nakime.
Obanai was capable of landing many blows on Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King, during the period of the conflict, nearly decapitating him and severing limbs from him. Despite having had his eyeballs clawed out earlier in the battle, Obanai became the first to recover awareness and assist Tanjiro after Giyu, Sanemi, Gyomei, Zenitsu, Inosuke, and Kanao were severely hurt by Muzan’s onslaught.
17. Tengen Uzui
“Do I look like someone with any talent? […] See, this country is vast. It’s teeming with people who’d blow your mind. Some are complete enigmas. Some can take up a sword and become a Hashira in two months. Me, chosen? Don’t give me that crap! Just how many lives do you think I’ve let slip through my fingers until now?” – Tengen Uzui
Tengen is an extremely strong and proficient fighter that belongs to the Demon Slayer Corps as a Hashira. He is the second-strongest Hashira in the present generation and the quickest sprinter of all the Hashira, exhibiting impressive physical accomplishments of speed and endurance.
He could equal the combat prowess of both Daki and Gyutaro, both Upper-Rank demons that already have previously battled and dispatched many Hashiras. To the same extent that he can’t anticipate Daki to be an Upper-Rank demon at all, Tengen was indeed able to behead her without her knowing it.
He managed to safeguard bystanders in the process whilst also being afflicted by a toxin that would normally kill a person instantaneously. This feat of resistance against Daki and Gyutaro’s collective strength is remarkable. Tengen has also shown exceptional ability and accuracy when employing explosives, limiting damage to the environment while increasing destruction to his adversaries.
Tengen’s shinobi training has given him better tactical skills and keener senses, particularly his perception of sound, which considerably aided him in his combat.
16. Daki
“Demons never grow old. And they don’t need money to eat. They don’t get sick. They don’t die. They have nothing to lose. […] We beautiful, powerful demons… can do anything we want! – Daki
Daki was a tremendously potent demon who held Upper-Rank Six as a second. Seven Hashira had been killed and eaten by Daki in the past, demonstrating the extent of her power. The collective forces of Zenitsu Agatsuma, Inosuke Hashibira, Makio, and Suma.
The previous two of whom are skilled Demon Slayers, and the remaining two of which are kunoichi with shinobi training—could not be resisted by her flesh detachment, which took the shape of a conscious Obi sash. In the meantime, Tanjiro Kamado, who had started to aggressively wield the Hinokami Kagura in battle, had already been having trouble with a lesser Daki.
15. Gyokko
“Hyo hyo! What a childish provocation! Did you think I, Gyokko, would be undone with such prattle? You seem desperate. It’s embarrassing.” – Gyokko
Gyokko, who has the fifth-highest rank among the Twelve Kizuki, is a very potent demon. The Hashira, the much more accomplished and potent combatant in the Demon Slayer Corps, is no match for him because of his special Blood Demon Art and methods.
This enables him to outclass common demons and provides him the advantage he needs to overpower and end even her. Gyokko is a member of Upper-Rank Five and is stronger than Gyutaro and Daki, who have each slain 15 and 7 Hashira, respectively.
14. Nakime Otokawa
Nakime is a very formidable demon despite having never shown much fighting prowess; he holds the fourth-highest rank in the Twelve Kizuki. She was able to use her unusual Blood Demon Art to prevent Obanai and Mitsuri’s attempts to decapitate her and delay the two Hashira for most of the Infinity Castle Arc without allowing either of the two strong fighters to even scratch her.
She then demonstrated the new power to generate and detach numerous eyeballs from her body after rising to the classification of Upper-Rank Four and likely getting more blood from Muzan. She was able to spy on people far away because of this.
Since Kagaya Ubuyashiki had gone to great lengths to conceal the whereabouts of his hidden house from all but the highest-ranking members of the Demon Slayer Corps, she was capable of efficiently uncovering and locating the whereabouts of practically all of the other Demon Slayer Corps members, too though.
13. Gyutaro
Gyutaro, the actual Upper-Rank Six, was a very great demon with almost a lifetime of battle experience, having murdered 15 Hashira in the past, the much more formidable and skillful Demon Slayers in the Demon Slayer Corps.
He was able to defeat both Tengen Uzui, the Demon Slayer Corps’ Sound Hashira, and Tanjiro Kamado, a skilled Demon Slayer with experience fighting Lower Rank demons, and ultimately defeated both of them in battle.
This demonstrated his enormous capabilities and powers. Although the battle swung in the Demon Slayers’ favor, Gyutaro and Daki were able to seize the initiative and overpower their opponents without any trouble.
12. Hantengu
“Since the day I was born I’ve never lied… not even once! I’m a good-natured weakling! I deserve pity, but no one has any sympathy for me.”- Hantengu
Hantengu is a very potent demon who holds the fourth-highest title among the Twelve Kizuki. He can make four identical copies of himself using the Blood Demon Art, and each of them has the same level of power as an Upper-Rank demon.
Tanjiro, Nezuko, and Genya, who are all skilled and experienced combatants, were unable to keep up with these clones’ collaborative power and were ultimately defeated. Genya claimed that Hantengu was especially challenging to kill since the Demon Slayers would be required to play cat and mouse, searching for the main body whilst also being pursued by four Upper Rank-level demons.
11. Giyu Tomioka
“Don’t cry. Don’t despair. Now’s not the time for that. […] Feel the rage. The powerful, pure rage of not being able to forgive will become your unswerving drive to take action!” – Giyu Tomioka
Giyu is a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps and an extremely strong and adept fighter. Giyu was able to catch Nezuko from Tanjiro and his companions with ease and then knock him out with a single blow, demonstrating how much superior Tanjiro and his comrades were to him from the start.
Eventually, he was capable of effortlessly beating Rui, Lower Rank Five, and the Father Spider Demon in his altered state, things Tanjiro and Inosuke, however, were unable to do. He sparred on an equal footing with fellow fighter Hashira Sanemi.
Additionally, Giyu was seen defeating dozens of demons with ease, just like the Lower Ranks of the Twelve Kizuki. Giyu is a fantastic partner who can understand their goals and cooperate with them.
10. Kyojuro Rengoku
“Life is a series of decisions. You never have unlimited options or unlimited time to think, but what you choose in that instant defines who you are.” -Kyojuro Rengoku
Kyojuro was a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps, an extremely strong and skillful warrior. Kyojuro had already proven himself to be a fantastic warrior prior to succeeding his father. He was able to revenge the deaths of the nine Demon Slayers who fell to the Flute Demon on his own, and he eventually defeated Lower Rank Two, Hairo, by himself.
Hairo even gave him a swordsmanship evaluation before he died. Furthermore, according to his father, Shinjuro Rengoku, Kyojuro taught himself to become a Hashira by studying the Flame Breathing style’s instruction manual, which only comprised three volumes, after he ceased instructing his son.
9. Akaza
“You misunderstand, Tanjiro. I only despise the weak. I only spit on weaklings. Yes. Weaklings make me sick. It is the law of nature that they be weeded out.” – Akaza
Akaza is a very strong demon that now has the third-highest rank in the Twelve Kizuki. In the past, he has been capable of defeating Kyojuro Rengoku, multiple Hashira, and a great number of Demon Slayers. Akaza is endowed with amazing skills and traits, but his martial arts excellence stands head and shoulders above the swordsmanship of some of the most accomplished Demon Slayers.
Additionally, he has the capacity to sense Fighting Spirit, which enables him to foresee his adversaries’ moves and pinpoint their weak points, making him nearly unstoppable if they can’t devise a defense against it.
8. Muichiro Tokito
“Remember that boiling anger. […] Even if I lose my memories, my body will remember that anger that will not leave me until I die. It’s why I trained so hard that I vomited blood to destroy demons. And more… to eradicate them!” – Muichiro Tokito
Muichiro is a juvenile prodigy who has great combat abilities as a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. He is known to be extraordinarily gifted despite his early age, achieving his Hashira level only after two months of training, a feat only Gyomei Himejima, the finest existing Hashira, had previously achieved.
Tanjiro Kamado and Genya Shinazugawa, two Demon Slayers who are older than he is, were no match for him. Even after Gyokko, Upper-Rank Five, assumed his actual form, Muichiro is still able to easily fight him by himself after activating his Demon Slayer Mark.
7. Doma
“The idea of divine punishment is a joke. Wicked people going to hell after death? If humans didn’t think like that, people with weak spirits couldn’t keep going, right? I truly believe… that humans are pathetic.” – Doma
Akaza, who is ranked Upper Three, wouldn’t have a chance against him in combat, according to Doma. Doma also outperformed Akaza in a shorter amount of time, demonstrating the vast difference in strength between the two demons.
The fact that Doma hardly ever fights sincerely and rather than embraces a relaxed and easy-going outlook even in life-or-death circumstances with the most potent Demon Slayers is further evidence of his considerable power. Doma only ever becomes severe because once his life is in real jeopardy, such as when the lethal repercussions of Shinobu’s toxicants have become evident, it is another testament to his great power.
6. Tanjiro Kamado
“In order to soothe the spirits of those it killed, and to make sure it claims no further victims… I will swing my blade down and lop off the head of any demon without mercy! But… I will not belittle those who regret their actions and suffer over the things they did as demons. Because demons were once human. Because they were like me.” – Tanjiro Kamado
Tanjiro was immediately apparent to be a masterful fighter with a high natural talent for combat, particularly in combat techniques. Tanjiro was already described in the introduction as possessing superhuman abilities, such as keen senses, an enhanced sense of smell, tremendous willpower, and high intelligence.
Even though he was overcome with strong emotions, his naturally acquired skills allowed him to outwit and surprise Giyu Tomioka, among the most formidable Demon Slayers, and almost deliver a lethal blow to him. In addition, Tanjiro impressed him by slicing the Temple Demon’s neck in his first interaction with a demon.
He was then able to repel the demon with a frequent hatchet and devise original defenses like headbutting the Temple Demon with his tough head and employing the hatchet to impale him and stop him from shifting.
5. Sanemi Shinazugawa
“Why do you think I went so far as to kill our mother? To protect you. You should have had a house somewhere and raised a family, and grown old. To make up for what I couldn’t do for mother and our little brothers and little sisters, you should have had a wife and children and made them happy. And I would’ve never… let a demon get near you.”- Sanemi Shinazugawa
Sanemi is an extremely strong and adept fighter that belongs to the Demon Slayer Corps as a Hashira. Throughout the course of several battles, he has repeatedly demonstrated his incredible skills and prowess. Sanemi was able to compete against the Water Hashira in a training match with Giyu Tomioka on an equal footing.
Sanemi was proven to be able to defeat dozens of demonic foes with power on par with Lower Rank demons during the Infinity Castle arc, and he later proved that he could compete with Kokushibo, an Upper Rank One demon.
4. Gyomei Himejima
“We are proud to live and die as human beings. Don’t act like your worthless ideas are supreme and force them on others.”- Gyomei Himejima
Gyomei is a tremendously strong and proficient fighter as a Hashira of the Demon Slayer Corps. He is described as the greatest Demon Slayer in the whole Demon Slayer Corps by both Tanjiro and Inosuke. According to Tengen Uzui, Gyomei rose to the status of a Hashira in just two months.
Kokushibo, who remarked that Gyomei’s innate physical powers have been developed to their maximum pinnacle and that he has not come across a warrior of Gyomei’s ability in the past three hundred years, lends further support to this.
Further demonstrating his skill, he managed to briefly engage the toughest Upper Rank in battle without the aid of his Demon Slayer Mark. In contrast, Kokushibo noticed that even within the ranks of the Hashira, Gyomei and Sanemi remained two of the most expert fighters.
Only after the battle, Muzan Kibutsuji, the Demon King, was pushed into a corner by Gyomei, who was hurt and slightly exhausted.
3. Kokushibou
“The ugliness of not admitting defeat even though they took my head, chopped me up, and crushed me. Living in disgrace. Have I lived hundreds of years for this? Was I so afraid of defeat that I became a monster? Did I want to be strong even if it meant eating people? Did I become this miserable creature because I didn’t want to die? No. Yoriichi… I just wanted to be you.”- Kokushibou
Kokushibo is the next most potent demon in existence after the Demon King Muzan Kibutsuji and is the top positioning member of the Twelve Kizuki. Over the course of his nearly 500-year life, he has engaged in innumerable battles with Demon Slayers and gained a wealth of expertise and wisdom.
Since he uses Total Concentration Breathing, uses the Transparent World, is marked, uses the Transparency World, and is a demon with the greatest proportion of Muzan’s blood in the organization, he has one of the most impressive and massive bodies in creation.
2. Muzan Kitbutsuji
“Only feelings are eternal and undying. That is true. I do not remember a single human being I have killed. Flesh dies, and that is the end. However… their feelings passed on and never fell to ruin and have even defeated me. I have witnessed that fact with my own eyes, and I was so moved that I trembled.” – Muzan Kibutsuji
Muzan is the most powerful demon in history because he is the Demon King and the origin of all demons. Muzan efficiently eliminated about a hundred Demon Slayers in a relatively short amount of time, even after disintegrating a medicine that was supposed to transform him again into a human.
The former said that an Upper Rank’s power is unparalleled to Muzan’s in his fight with a marked Giyu Tomioka and Tanjiro Kamado, whilst the latter was incapable of even tracking his strikes and was merely duck by reflex. Muzan casually cut out Tanjiro’s eye as he approached the Demon King and subsequently claimed that Tanjiro’s strikes were too quick for him to scent.
1. Yoriichi Tsugikuni
“I think I was born with special strength for the purpose of defeating Muzan Kibutsuji. But I was lacking. In the end, I failed. Because of that, many more people will die. And that pains me.” – Yoriichi Tsugikuni
In addition to someone being endowed with the Demon Slayer Mark, Transparent World, and Unselfishness State, Yoriichi also has a god-like build and a natural skill for swordsmanship, making him the greatest Demon Slayer known to have ever existed.
He was described as a miracle prodigy, surpassing comparison since, at the age of seven, despite never having held a katana before, he was capable of defeating a skilled sword trainer with ease. Yoriichi was able to fight numerous demons after receiving training as a Demon Slayer, to the point wherein his older brother claimed that he could not even compete with him as a grown-up when they were kids.
He was the only member of the Demon Slayer Corps to be capable of capturing Muzan Kibutsuji, overwhelming him in a moment, and nearly killing him before he was able to flee. While Yoriichi’s mere memory caused the body of many other monsters who had never met him to shiver, Muzan was so severely wounded by that experience that he referred to him as a monstrosity, and just the glimpse of his jewelry made him shudder in shock.
